WWE Week 3 Recap
RAW
- Rikishi gets a DQ win over Kurt Angle after Angle shoves the referee in the way for a corner splash, then Big Show sets Kurt up for a stinkface and dances with Rikishi.
- Trish does some vignettes with table innuendo
- The Faction kiss and make up before Jericho does his thing, leading to a tag match later in the night with Shane and Rock added. Benoit also attacks Jericho during the commercial break.
- Benoit gets the win over Road Dogg in a non-title match, after Edge spears Roadie while Christian distracts the referee. He delivers an inverted DDT on Tori after the match.
- Kurt tries to pay APA to take out Show, which they refuse since they're a protection agency, not hitmen. Boss Man and Buchanan get a handicap match with Show made for later to help out Kurt instead.
- Holly Cousins get a win over the Hardyz after Crash nails Jeff with a trash can lid while the ref is distracted. Then following some chaos involving Perry Saturn and Tazz and following a Swanton from Jeff, Matt wins the Hardcore Title from Crash.
- Show wins his handicap match after Angle runs down for a low blow, followed by an Angle Slam and a beatdown until APA make the save.
- Vince tries to drive a wedge between Rock and Austin ahed of the PPV, then removes Shane from tonight's tag match, saying he's been assigned "other duties," leaving Trips to find a new partner.
- D'Lo and Blackman get the win over Godfather and Al Snow, after D'Lo nails Snow with the Lo Down. Godfather gets pissed as Snow starts to harass his hos and sends him packing.
- After interference from Essa and Lita, Val Venis gets a non-title win over Eddie with the Money Shot, with Chyna stopping a post-match beatdown.
- After a distraction from T&A atop the ramp and a missed 3D as a result, E&C beat the Dudleyz after Edge hits D-Von with the spear.
- With Shane announced as the special guest ref and Benoit announced as Trips' new partner, and following a low blow from Vince, Trips nails Rock with the Pedigree to win in the main event.
Smackdown
- After some help from Lita, Essa nails Eddie with a moonsault to get a win over him and Chyna, alongside Val.
- Trips gives himself and Rock the night off, and Rock promises an appearance from Austin on the show. Vince also announces Shane as the guest ref for Backlash. They then spend the whole night searching for Austin and being made fools of along the way.
- Malenko regains the Light Heavyweight Title from Scotty 2 Hotty after using the ropes for leverage on a roll up.
- T&A get the clean win over the Hollys after a flying elbow on Crash from Test. The Dudleyz try to send Trish through a table but a lip lock puts Bubba in a trance, allowing Albert to put him through the table instead.
- Jericho and Tazz get a clean win over Benoit and Saturn after Jericho nails Benoit with the Lionsault
- Roadie gets a clean win over Christian with a pumphandle slam, until Roadie attacks Christian with a steel chair, the decision reversed as a result.
- Kish and Show beat Angle, Boss Man and Buchanan after a stinkface and a chokeslam on Bull. Boss Man and Bull brawl with the APA after the match and Kish and Show dance.
- Al Snow tries to patch things up with Blackman but he's having none of it.
- In a match originally between the Hardyz for the Hardcore Title, Crash swoops in to cover Jeff and steal the title back.
- Godfather gets a DQ win over Blackman following an attack with nunchucks by Al Snow
- After teasing him all night, Austin makes his big return to destroy the DX Express to close out the go-home show.
Backlash
- E&C retain the tag titles over Roadie and X-Pac after Christian nails X-Pac with the ring bell behind the referee's back, busting him open the hard way in the process.
- Malenko retains the Light Heavyweight Title over Scotty 2 Hotty, after Dean turns a superplex into a DDT
- Boss Man and Buchanan get the win over APA after Boss Man nails Bradshaw with a nightstick behind the ref's back and Bull nails the top rope leg drop.
- In a 6 way involving Hardcore Holly, Perry Saturn, the Hardyz and Tazz, Crash retains his Hardcore Title, after Tazz has a stop sign bent across his head, and Crash takes advantage amongst the chaos
- In a parody of Hulk Hogan, the Showster beats Angle with a chokeslam
- T&A get the win over the Dudleyz after, due to a distraction from Trish, they miss a 3D, Test nailing Bubba with a big boot to seal the victory. Bubba does get what he wants in the end though putting Trish through a table and sending her off on a stretcher after the match.
- After nearly missing the match due to prom, and while wrestling in his tux pants, Eddie retains the European Championship over Essa with a little help from Chyna, and a Razor's Edge into a neckbreker. Lita rips off Chyna's dress after the match leaving her in her bra and panties.
- Benoit retains the IC Title via DQ, due to, after Benoit introduces the title into the match, Jericho uses it to block a diving headbutt, and the referee catches it after coming to off a ref bump.
- After Austin lays out the Faction and following a People's Elbow, Linda sends in Hebner to make the count, with Rock winning the WWF Title to end the show.
