WWF Fully Loaded 2000
We get a video package comparing wrestling to gambling to hype up the night's various matches, before we go live to the Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas, J.R. and the King welcoming us to the show as we get to our first match.
6-Person Intergender Tag Team Match: T&A & Trish Stratus vs The Hardy Boyz & Lita
Pre-Match: We get a brief video package recapping Lita and Trish's problems, which started with Lita landing ass first on her face with a leg drop, then there was the Street Fight and Lita going through the table, plus Lita was whipped with a belt on the go-home Smackdown.
Lita chases after Trish though Test cuts her off, as Matt is sent off the ropes by Albert, delivers some rights only to be sent into the corner chest first, counters a back suplex and sends Albert off the turnbuckle repeatedly. Matt tries a suplex but he's thrown off and lands on his chest, then Albert with boots and a lew sweep. Pin attempts and some kick out until Matt gets an arm drag, only to be tossed out to the floor. Test with the tag and Matt face first in the corner, then sent across the ring but gets a boot up, then a leg drop from the middle rope. Jeff with the tag, Test sent off the ropes into double elbows, Jeff covers for two.
Jeff off the ropes into a spinning sidewalk slam from Test, then Jeff sent off the ropes, slides under the ropes, back in and a dropkick through the ropes, plus a crossbody onto Test to the floor. Back in the ring, Matt back in and double boots on Test in the corner, then Matt with an inside cradle for two. Test ducks a clothesline and nails a bit boot before tagging in Trish, who slaps Matt as Test holds him up, then drops down as Trish goes for a second and she gets Test. Matt rolls her up and Test breaks it up. Sloppy DDT on Matt by Test and Trish misses an elbow.
Lita with the tag and Trish retreats to tag in Albert, Lita running until the Hardz make the save, Albert into the corner for Poetry in Motion, then a double team suplex. Test iin, he's caught by the Hardyz, then Trish and Lita connect for suplexes. Jeff off the ropes and kneed by Test, into a military press and Jeff its thrown over the ropes to the floor. Test with boots before tossing him back in, double-arm suplex and a cover by Albert for two. Test back in, Jeff sent off the ropes, launched up and drops down with a thud, Test covers for two. Jeff starts to fight back and drives Test into the corner, then sent across the ring, gets Test with a sunset flip for two. Test catches him with a full nelson slam before latching on a rear chinlock. Jeff fights out, off the ropes, goes for a hurricanrana but gets planted with a sitout powerbomb. Test goes up top but misses the elbow.
Matt with the ta, goes up top with a flying clothesline, then some rights, sent into the corner, gets Test with an elbow, to the middle rope with a headlock. Albert knocked off the apron, which allows Test to get Matt with the pumphandle powerslam, and makes the cover, but Jeff breaks it up with the Swanton, then Matt rolls over for the cover but Albert breaks it up. Matt goes for a running powerslam but Matt counters with a DDT. Lita tags in and goes up top with a tornado DDT on Test. Lita goes back up top with a crossbody to Albert on the floor, then up top a third time with a hurricanrana on Test, covering for two. Lita off the ropes and she's clubbed by Albert, and Test hits a gutwrench powerbomb.
Trish gets the tag and covers but Lita kicks out. Trish with the bulldog, then covers again for two. Trish sent into the corner, but gets Lita with an elbow, then Trish goes up top, Lita slaps Albert off the apron before joining Trish to hit a superplex, Lita covers but Albert breaks it up. Hardyz sent Albert to the floor as Lita repositions Trish, going up top and hits the moonsault for the win in 13:13. This match was sorta hit or miss, felt a little clunky, even without the green Lita and Trish, but it was a good opener for the show.
Albert nails Lita from behind with a clothesline, then Test comes in and they beat down the Hardyz. Matt sent into the corner, Albert whipped into him for a splash, then a big boot by Test. Jeff gets the same treatment and Trish gets a belt again to start whipping Lita again. Hardyz finally chase them off as Trish and T&A leave, while we get a few replays of the moonsault, and the post-match whipping. Lita's helped out of the ring by the Hardyz to the back.
Foley is talking to... some guy in a suit backstage, talking about his fear of a bed of nails, and up runs Edge, who thinks Christian has food poisoning. Foley laughs off the convenient timing the same night they defend the belts, and says he has a case of "fraidycatitis". Edge insists they're fine with defending the belts and says he's ready and that Christian is violently ill right now, even suggesting he bring a doctor or EMT. Foley says he'll send for one.
Taker arrives on his bike and asks for Angle, and Angle just happens to be around the corner, so Taker drives off in chase of Angle, down the hallways of the building. Angle runs right into a dead end room and Taker drives right on in and Angle runs off again, Taker looking on.
Tazz vs Al Snow (w/ Head)
Pre-Match: Some replays of Tazz's various attacks over the last few weeks as he makes his way out.
Al with some rapid rights and Tazz is sent off the ropes into a back elbow. Stomping away and some rights by Al before getting sent off the ropes, catches Tazz with a kick and delivers a Russian leg sweep. Tazz rolls out and Al gets some rights in before returning to the ring, trading shots until Tazz tags advantage with an eye rake. Tazz goes for an exploder ssuplex but Al fights free and hits a standing side kick. Sitout spinebuster for two. Tazz face first in the corner, boots by Al and choking before he's sent across the ring, tries to go up and over but Tazz hits an Alabama Slam. Tazz raking at the eyes and face before Al's sent into the corner, stops short and delivers a right. Clotheslines and a scoop slam by Al before going up top with a leg drop. Al goes back up top and hits a moonsault into a cover for a near fall.
Al gets his hands on Head but he gets a chop block and some more rights by Tazz off the distraction. Al sent off the ropes into a drop toe hold, then some forearm shots across the face. Al gets some shots in and some headbutts, kicks to the legs and chest. Al's roundhouse is caught and he's suplexed overhead. Tazzmission is blocked as Al get's his arms up and tosses Tazz to the mat, then ducks a clothesline, goes for a waistlock but it's countered into a Tazzmission. Al tries to roll through and escape but Tazz has it locked in tight, and Al taps in 5:23. It was a fine match, nothing special. Think I heard a boring chant at one point, the live crowd clearly couldn't care less.
Tazz refuses to break the hold immediately but eventually relents, posing in the corner before leaving.
Over to E&C's locker room where Christian is putting on quite the show in a stall, and in walk Foley and the doctor. Christian comes out of the stall and the doctor checks him out and the doc agrees they won't be able to defend. Mick apologizes and wish he feels better as he and the doc leave.
Trips and Steph are watching this go down elsewhere and in walks... someone with some flowers for Steph, set on a table littered with flowers already, and Trips calls it ridiculous, wondering who they're from. Steph is surprised, she thought they were from him, and she has no idea who they're from. Trips look around and finds a card, wishing the best of luck to her and "her man" tonight, it's true it's true. Trips of course is suspicious now.
WWF European Championship: Eddie Guerrero (c) (w/ Chyna) vs Perry Saturn (w/ Terri)
Pre-Match: Replay of what Saturn did to Eddie and Chyna on Smackdown. Chyna lays out Saturn with a forearm and gets her hands on Terri, then clubbed by Saturn, Eddie clubs him from behind. Saturn into the barricade then into the ring to start this match.
Eddie corners Saturn with shots and boots, then a back suplex. Slingshot senton from the apron, then Saturn sent off the ropes and a back elbow sends him out of the ring, turned inside out by a clothesline from Chyna. Saturn is tossed back in as Saturn's set on the top rope for a Frankensteiner. Mounted rights by Eddie and a cover for two. Saturn sent off the ropes into a clothesline, Eddie with boots and an armbar. Saturn's slid out to the floor and then thrown into the steps by Chyna, then a forearm. Eddie up top with a crossbody to the floor onto Saturn. Back in the ring, Eddie goes up top with a hurricanrana and a cover for two, and an extremely fast count from the referee.
Saturn sent off the ropes, slips around and gets Eddie in the electric chair into a powerbomb. Eddie with shoulders in the corner, then poked in the eye for some chops and rights from Saturn, Eddie sent into the corner but catches Saturn with an elbow, then a tornado DDT, Eddie covers for two eventually. Eddie sent into the corner, tries for a headscissor but he's thrown off to the mat. Eddie sent off the ropes, popped up and dropped down with a thud, then Saturn covers for two. Eddie sent off the ropes, popped up but counters with a hurricanrana this time. Suplex is countered, then Saturn's is countered with a roll up for two. Eddie off the ropes for a popup powerbomb.
Saturn goes up top and misses a moonsault, then Eddie with a brainbuster, before going up top himself but misses the senton and slammed into the mat, Saturn with a three-quarter nelson cradle for two. Saturn with his suplex into a powerslam, then goes back up top, but Eddie cuts him off and dropkicks him off to the floor. Saturn nails Chyna with a right, then a clothesline sends her over the Spanish table, and it collapses out from under her. Terri runs back out and Saturn uses her as a shield, before she low blows him and he's sent into the ring post. Eddie's rolled back in and Saturn up top with an elbow to the back to win the title in 8:11. I don't know what it was, but this match felt off right from the start, they just didn't mesh well, it wasn't that fast-paced action you're used to with Eddie, and then there was that wonky finish. It just kinda happened.
Chyna slips in to check on Eddie as Saturn leaves with Terri, belt in hand, then the replays.
Back to E&C's locker room, where they're patting themselves on the back for fooling Foley, Christian giving up the ruse as they're packing up their bags. In walks Foley and he was about to give them a pass for tonight and defend the belts on Raw instead, seemingly caught on to their ruse but Christian puts on the act again and runs off to the bathroom. Foley looks over the stall to catch him in the act. Foley says they're going to get their asses kicked, in his personal medical opinion, then leaves.
Cole is with Taker backstage, and speaking of medical opinions, he asks for an update on Taker following Angle's attack on Smackdown. Taker's medical opinion is that Angle will need a doctor to surgically remove Taker's foot from his ass. Taker notices something behind Cole and we see Angle on a monitor, getting on Taker's bike. Taker goes off searching as Angle tries to ride off on it, but he can't get it going. Taker shows up and Angle runs off.
WWF Tag Team Championship: Edge & Christian (c) vs The Acolytes
Pre-Match: Edge has the mic says it's ironic that Christian really is sick, sick and tired of being in Dallas. He takes a shot at their teams, how the Stars proved they are not repeat champions, and the Cowboys proved they are repeat offenders. Christian takes the mic to talk about how the people of Dallas make a big deal out of the JFK assassination and the conspiracy theories, but says it wouldn't have made a difference because if he had spent 5 more minutes in Dallas he would have committed suicide anyways. So, for the benefit of those with flash photography... Oh APA interrupt before they can do a 5-second pose. Bradshaw gets the mic and wants the champions to hear something, because in a second his boot's going to be in their ear and they won't be able to hear a damn thing. He brings up how they go town to town getting cheap heat by making fun of them, but now they come into the city with 5 Super Bowl championships, come into his home state that's won every major sporting championship, and have the audacity to poke fun at them. He says that's fine, since their country's only known for high-octane beer and two long-haired punks like them, and tonight, in the same building they won the Stanley Cup a year prior, the building where Dick Murdoch, Bruiser Brody, the Freebirds and the Von Erichs ruled, they're going to give one more memorable evening they can tell their kids forever, the night the Acolytes made Edge and Christian their personal bitches. God damn.
Fighting on the outside immediately and Farooq starts wantonly hitting the champions with the steel steps, in full view of the referee. OK then. Bradshaw and Edge into the ring, then Christian in, Bradshaw whipped into the corner, Christian launches off Edge's back with a splash but he's caught midair for a fallaway slam off the middle rope. Edge gets a big boot as Farooq tags in and covers for two after some shots. Bradshaw back in, Edge sent off the ropes into shoulder blocks and an elbow into a cover for two. Edge face first in the corner, then sent across the ring, then manages to block a powerbomb attempt. Edge sent off the ropes into another shoulder block, then a powerbomb connects on the second try. Another powerbomb attempt is intercepted by a missile dropkick from Christian, who tags in with boots and shots to the back, sending Bradsaw to the apron and Edge gets on the attack. Edge back in with rights, then Bradshaw gets some shots in, Edge sent off the ropes and hits a swinging neckbreaker into a cover for two. Boots to the head by Edge and Christian back in, raking the eyes in the corner and Edge chokes. Christian in again and set Bradshaw on the top rope for a double team superplex, but they're shoved off and Bradshaw hits a flying shoulder block.
Farooq gets the tag with clotheslines, powerslam on Christian coming off the ropes, then a spinebuster on Edge into a cover but Christian breaks it up. Clothesline from Hell on Christian and Bradshaw is sent face first off the timekeeper's table by Edge. Farooq hits the Dominator on Christian back in the ring, as Edge grabs one of the belts, Farooq covers and Edge nails him in the back with the belt for the DQ. Acolytes win, champs retain in 5:34. It was fairly alright but way too short, and the finish was kinda clunky.
Champs leave up the ramp with their title until the Acolytes intercept. Champs sent into the barricades and the fight makes its way to the back.
Boss Man's at WWF New York and argues with some kid about being underage and checks his ID. So that happened.
Back to Trips and Steph, who puts over the brutality of a Last Man Standing Match, and how he doesn't have time to worry about that and the flowers and Angle. Steph points out that the card doesn't actually say it's from Angle, but HHH points out the "it's true it's true." Steph is sick of this too and suggest he go ask Kurt himself. So he leaves.
Speaking of our Olympic hero, he's still being stalked backstage by Taker, and he tries to apologize and calls it a joke. Angle runs down a nearby hallway, but it's just so he could come out behind Taker and nail him in the back of the knee with the wrench again. Angle leaves.
Steel Cage Match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship: Rikishi vs Val Venis (c) (w/ Trish Stratus)
Pre-Match: We see footage of when Val won the title with help from Tazz two weeks ago, then Scotty getting thrown off the stage to the floor on the go-home Raw.
Val immediately tries to escape but he's yanked down, Kish with rights knock Val down repeatedly. Val goes face first into the cage, then a second time and a third time and a fourth, into each side of the cage. Kish tries to climb out and escape now but he's cut off by Val on the top rope. Val is elbowed back to the mat and Val tries to crawl out the door, but he's caught by Kish, who delivers a back suplex. Kish calls for the door now Val gets him with a chop block, stomping away at the knee now. Kish now face first into the cage, then a second time, then Val with boots in the corner, choking with his boot. Val sent across the ring for a clothesline and he's dropped down in position for a Stinkface but he's caught with a low blow, and a bulldog by Val from the middle rope. Val stomping away, then Kish sent off the ropes into a back elbow, then Val comes off the ropes and turns Kish inside out with a clothesline, then covers for two.
Val tries to escape again up the side of the cage, then Kish climbs up the corner. Kish face first off the bars at the top three times and Kish drops down to the mat, then Val walks along the top rope for an elbow drop, before taking a while to cover for two. Val stumbles to the corner and starts the climb again, and straddles the top of the cage, almost over but he's caught by Kish. Val face first off the top of the cage repeated, then pulled back down to the corner. Trading elbows and Kish goes face first into the cage repeatedly and they both get crotched on the top rope. Val's been cut by the left eye.
Kish goes for the door but he's caught by Val, who delivers some vicious rights, off the ropes and face first into the cage, into a Samoan drop. Val retreats to the corner and gets slammed into, dropped into position for the Banzai Drop, makes a pin attempt but Val gets his foot on the bottom rope. Kish goes for the door again but Trish slams the door back into his face. Val takes advantage with a neckbreaker before going to the top rope and hits the Money Shot into a cover but Kish kicks out.
Lita comes out with a belt and starts whipping Trish with it, pulling her top off and they start fighting up the aisle toward the back, Lita whipping and choking the whole way, with the ref outside the cage following them. Meanwhile Vald and Kish are making their climb but Val goes face first off the bars of the cage and eventually falls back to the mat, knocking into the ref in the proceess. Kish is on the top rope now and makes his climb to the top, walking along the edge to hit a massive splash on Val from the top of the cage. Fucking hell. Kish crawls and drags his way toward the door but Tazz has come out with a TV camera, nailing Kish in the head with it. Val is barely stirring and moving and rolls over, drapes the arm to retain in 14:12. Well that sure killed the crowd. Damn good match otherwise though.
We go replays of the finish as the ref checks on Val and Kish, and Val seems to have stopped bleeding, crawling his way out of the ring. Replays of Trish and Lita's fight, then that huge splash. Commentary talk about it as referees come out to help Rikishi to the back
Moving on, we see what happened earlier when Angle lured and attacked Taker with the wrench earlier in the night. Then to Taker who's off in search of Angle with a limp. Trips is looking around for Angle too, and he bumps into the flower guy, who has more for Steph. Trips grabs him by the collar wanting to know where "he" is and the guy takes him down the hall to a room. Trips walks in the door closes behind him, and all we hear is someone getting the crap beaten out of him, and out comes Jericho leaving Trips laying. The flower guy runs off.
Out comes Shane and he looks ready to have a match, much to commentary's confusion. Shane gets a mic and says he's come out to prove to everyone that he's not a pussy, and to do that, he's come out to call out the Rock for a match, but obviously not for the title, since it wouldn't be fair to Benoit. He hopes Rock doesn't have any excuses like the typical Texans do, and he comes down to experience the thriller known as Shane O'Mac, the Giant Killer. As his shirt says, he tells Rock to just bring it.
Rock comes out oddly enough and enters the ring, with his eyes on Shane as he exits. Rock gets a mic and says that 20,000 of his fans can't be wrong, he is a pussy. Rock knows it's a setup right from the word go and a pretty crappy one at that, and he wonders where Benoit is, perhaps stuck up Shane's candy ass. He says it just doesn't matter to him, because just as he stands there now, we don't have to wait until later and suggest they just do it now.
Benoit appears on the TitanTron and says he knows Rock wouldn't be dumb enough to get himself disqualified tonight, and says not to worry about losing the title that way, because he's going to make him tap out and cry like a baby or beat him 1-2-3 to become WWF Champion, and that's the way it is. Since he's going to strip Rock of his title tonight, he though he might as well strip him of his GQ clothing as well, and we see Benoit's in Rock's locker room and ripping and destroying his clothing. Rock heads to the back as Benoit leaves.
Now we get a video package for our next match, which all started when Angle stupidly cost Taker the tag titles and ruined his bike. He tried to make up for it by giving him a scooter but Taker destroyed it instead. Angle would further worsen things by nailing Taker with a sledgehammer, and despite further apologies, it only pissed off Taker more. Angle finally found a set of balls and took Taker and Kane head on... well almost head on, with vicious chair and wrench attacks on the go-home episode of Smackdown, plus earlier on this very show.
Kurt Angle (King of the Ring) vs The Undertaker
Pre-Match: Taker doesn't wait for his music as he rides out on his bike mid-Angle entrance. Angle tries to use the wrench but it's blocked and Taker takes the fight into the crowd, and eventually back to ringside. Angle face first off the steps and a right by Angle, then into the barricade again. Angle face first off the steps once again before getting tossed in the ring to get this match officially started.
Angle tries to get the jump but he's sent off the ropes into a big boot, then Taker off the ropes with an elbow and a cover, but he pulls Angle up before the three. Stalling one-armed suplex on Angle and a cover, and Angle's pulled up again before the three. Angle face first in the corner for some more rights, then Angle whipped across the ring and gets a boot up, before jumping on Taker's back with a sleeper, only for Taker to slam him into the corner. Elbows to the side of the head, then Angle whipped across the ring for a clothesline and a sidewalk slam, then a cover but Angle kicks out this time at two, then tossed out to the floor.
Angle gets a wrench shot in on the knee while the ref's back is turned exiting the ring, then he's sent into the barricade before getting tossed back in the ring. Taker gets some more rights in but Angle goes back for the leg, trying for a take down but he's nailed with another right. Angle sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and clips the bad knee. Angle working the knee now with elbows and wrenching it around it own knee, but Taker eventually fights out slamming his knee across Angle's chest. Exchanging rights now until Angle kicks the leg, then sent off the ropes, caught by the throat but Angle takes out the leg, tripping Taker up back into that leg hold. Taker's counted down for a pin but pops back up at two. Angle continues working the knee, now a step-over leg lock, Taker down for a pin again but he pops back up, then again. Taker eventually gets out and slams Taker's knee into the mat and exchange rights but Angle with another kick to the knee. Taker with rapid body shots and an uppercut takes Angle back down, then Angle sent off the ropes into a chokeslam, then the Last Ride for the win in 7:37. Another good match.
Replays of the finish before Taker heads to the back.
Apparently cameras caught Rock back at his locker room moments ago, looking over Benoit's handiwork and he leaves pissed off.
We get to the video package for second of three main events, this all starting back at King of the Ring, and furthered when Jericho cost HHH a shot at the WWF Title, plus, then he ate a Stinkface and got beat by Brooklyn Brawler thanks to Jericho. Eventually DX and Trips would have enough and lure him into a setup, leading to a brutal sledgehammer attack leaving Jericho bloodied and battered. Jericho requested this be made a Last Man Standing Match following the attack and Trips was trapped in the Walls on the go-home Smackdown, to lead to this.
Last Man Standing Match: Triple H (w/ WWF Women's Champion Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) vs Chris Jericho
Jericho gets the first shot in driving Trips into the corner with rights and boots, then sent across the ring, Jericho with a pair of clotheslines and a dropkick sends Trips to the floor. Jericho with a springboard dropkick knocks HHH back to the floor. Trips off the barricade, then the Spanish table cover off the back until Trips knees the injured ribs. More trading shots and Trips is rolled back in the ring. Shoulder to the ribs and a spinning back elbow off the top, and Jericho with mounted rights. Trips sent off the ropes but hits a gutbuster, then clotheslines Jericho out to the floor. Trips goes face first off the steps though, only to drop Jericho ribs first off the barricade. Jericho is dropped ribs first off the steps before returning to the ring.
Kicks to the ribs and HHH rips away the rib tape for some more kicks to the ribs, then a pair of knee drops into the ribs. Jericho face first in the corner, then some shoulders into the ribs repeatedly and viciously. Jericho sent off the ropes into another knee to the ribs. HHH rips some more tape off and uses it to choke Jericho, then another stomp and kick to the ribs. Knee drop to the back, then an elbow drop, then Jericho's tossed out to the floor. Steph comes over with some slaps to Jericho and Trips stomps away at the ribs, then a suplex in the aisle to Jericho. First count of the match but HHH cuts it off at 5, returning things to the ring.
Jericho starts fighting back with rights, then sent off the ropes into an abdominal stretch, clubbing the ribs as he torques Jericho's body. Trips grabs the rope to keep it on, and the camera cuts away from the ref kicking Trips' hand away, allowing Jericho to get out with a hip toss. Trips shoves the ref, who shoves back, and Jericho comes back with rights, sent off the ropes with a spinning heel kick, then goes for the Lionsault but Trips gets the knees up, then a DDT. Jericho is back at 7.
Jericho sent off the ropes right into a sleeper and Trips drops to the mat with a body scissor added in, eventually releasing as Jericho's seemingly passed out, but he's back up at 9.
A right drops Jericho back down only to get back up, then another right takes him down a second time. Jericho's asking for more and Trips delivers a Pedigree, but Jericho's back up again right before the 10. Trips goes out and grabs a chair into the ribs of Jericho, then the back. Trips drops the chair to the mat and gets Jericho into position for another Pedigree and Jericho gets in a low blow as Trips wastes time with the referee. Jericho gets the chair now and delivers a vicious shot to the head of Trips, who's now busted wide open, his face is already covered in blood. Trips is back up at 8.
Jericho now with shots in , then a kick from Trips only to be knocked back down. Jericho sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and hits a forearm. Jericho sent into the corner but gets a boot up and hits a missile dropkick. Jericho positions the chair in the middle and Trips is sent into the corner, then bulldogged onto the chair. Jericho breaks up the count and sends Trips into the corner, over the ropes to the floor. Jericho gets whipped into the steps, then Trips removes the top half of the steps, trying for a Pedigree onto the bottom half but gets back dropped to the floor. They both get hold of a monitor from the announce table and nail each other at the same time. Eventually they're both up just barely before the 10.
Back in the ring, Jericho misses a clothesline, then counters a Pedigree into the Walls, and Trips is helpless tapping out. Trips gets to the ropes but it does him no good, and Jericho pulls him back to the middle. Steph finally comes in to pull Jericho off, who blocks a slap and puts her in the Walls. HHH nails him from behind to break the hold. Jericho face first off the barricade, then whipped ribs first into it. Trips pulls out a sledgehammer from under the ring and swings for Jericho's head, but he ducks and it hits the ring post. Trips is catapuled into the ring post and Jericho has the sledgehammer into the ribs of Trips, knocking him onto the announce table. Jericho climbs the timekeeper's area but gets low blowed, and Trips drives himself and Jericho through the announce table with a back suplex. Jericho hasn't moved an inch, and Trips gets up just barely before the 10, winning the match in 23:12. Took a while to get this one really going, and Jericho did get a bit of retribution in, but definitely should have won here. He is somewhat protected at least, with the injuries prior to the match and Steph's interference.
Trips falls right back down and Jericho's still out cold, Steph checking on her bloodied husband holding her back as we go to the replays. Referees are out to tend to both of them, Trips is barely moving himself. Trips and Steph are both helped to the back.
Onto the final video package of the night for our main event. This started when Benoit and Shane started a business relationship of sort, in his quest for the WWF Title, laying waste to anyone in his way, from Chyna to Hebner to Rock himself. Rock eventually gave him the title match he wanted after he made it personal. Foley would take away Rock's champion's advantage to ensure the fans weren't given a cheap finish, hoping Rock would keep a level head, after viciously attacking Benoit on the go-home Raw. He'd get Benoit in the Crossface to close out the go-home show.
WWF Championship: Chris Benoit (w/ Shane McMahon) vs The Rock (c)
Title will change hands if Rock is disqualified.
Shane provides a distraction and allows Benoit to attack from behind, already going for the Crossface but he's sent off the ropes into a back elbow, and Benoit rolls out to the floor. Benoit into the steps before returning to the ring, Rock chases Shane around and back in, a clothesline to Benoit, then back to chasing Shane, back into the ring again and an inverted atomic drop to Benoit. Benoit is catapulted into Shane, knocking him off the apron in the process, Rock covers for two. Rock tries for the Crossface now but Benoit scrambles to the outside before he can lock it in.
Benoit takes his time regrouping until sending Rock off the ropes into a knee to the midsection, then Rock into the corner chest first, then a gutwrench into a gutbuster. Benoit stomping away, then Shane with an elbow with the ref preoccupied pulling Benoit off. Rock is kicked to the outside, then Rock face first off the steps before being tossed back in the ring. Rock sent off the ropes into another knee, Benoit covers for two. Rock counters an Irish whip and drops Benoit on the top rope with a front suplex, followed by a punt to the chest. Benoit goes up top but he's crotched, and Rock follows up with a back suplex.
Takes a while to get back to their feet, Shane tosses the belt into the ring before climbing the apron, allowing Benoit to nail Rock behind the ref's back, tossing the belt out and making the cover for a near fall. Snap suplex by Benoit and another cover for two. Rock face first in the corner for some rights by Benoit, but Benoit's sent across the ring and caught in a powerslam and a cover for two. Rock off the ropes and caught with a back suplex, then Benoit gets the sharpshooter applied, Rock manages to get to the bottom rope. Rock's knee slammed into the mat, and Benoit goes for the sharpshooter again but Rock fights out. Now Rock with some rights, sent toward the ropes and Shane pulls the top rope down, sending Rock back to the floor.
Benoit gets sent back first into the steps, then face first off the barricade before getting crotched into the ring post. Back in the ring and Rock with the dragon screw before applying a figure 4. Shane back on the apron as Benoit retreats to the ropes to force a break. Cheap shot by Benoit and Rock is knocked back to the floor, a clothesline by Shane as Benoit keeps the ref busy. Boots by Benoit as Shane lies in wait again, clotheslining Rock over the barricade into the crowd. Benoit hops over and gets a drink thrown in his face before he's thrown back to ringside, only to suplex Rock over to the padded floor. Rock sent back first into the barricade, then a second time before they return to the ring. Rock delivers a sudden DDT and covers for two, only to be clotheslined and covered for two himself. Backbreaker and a cover by Benoit for two. Another cheap shot and choking by Shane with the ref preoccupied, then a neckbreaker and a cover for two for Benoit Exchanging blows until Rock catches Benoit coming off the ropes with an alleyoop, sending him throat first into the top rope. Rock covers but Benoit gets his foot on the rope.
Rock sent off the ropes into another clothesline and a cover for two, then a scoop slam before Benoit goes up top and hits the diving headbutt. Benoit makes the eventual cover and Rock gets the shoulder up. Both back up and Rock delivers rights until Benoit rakes the eyes, then he's sent off the ropes into a spinebuster and the People's Elbow. Rock makes the cover but Shane's hopped on the apron immediately, then the count but Benoit kicks out in time. Rock sent chest first in the corner and Benoit follows with rights and a headbutt, setting Rock on the top rope and following up with a superplex. Benoit makes the eventual cover again but Rock kicks out.
Benoit with boots in the corner, then he's clotheslined as he argues with the ref, only to be pulled into one of his own. Benoit goes out and grabs a chair and the ref takes it away. While the ref is lambasting Benoit, Shane comes in with a second chair to nail the ref in the back. Shane is knocked down by Rock before laying into Benoit with rights into the corner. Rock gets one of the chairs and chases Shane out, just as the ref comes to to see Rock with chair in hand. Benoit runs right into a crossface and the ref calls for the bell, eventually in 19:30.
Rock doesn't break the hold immediately as the ref talks to Fink, who informs us that, as a result of a disqualification, and new WWF Champion, Benoit, of course the ref thinks Rock nailed him with the chair. Shane nails Rock with the chair as Shane and Benoit celebrate, heading to the back with title in hand, and Rock's been busted open from that chair shot as we go to the replays.
Their celebrating is cut short by Foley though who makes his way out, who makes his way over to Finkel to take the mic. Foley did say that the title would change hands on a DQ, but he sure as hell didn't see a DQ, nor did anyone in Dallas. Foley orders this match to continue much to Benoit's dismay.
WWF Championship Match continues
Benoit and Shane head on back to the ring, Rock immediately with rights knock Benoit down, but he's hit with a trifecta of Germans, the last a bridging one for two. Benoit with more rights and Rock goes face first in the corner before trying for the Crossface but Rock gets to the ropes, only to be pulled away and locked in the Crossface. Rock manages to make it to the ropes again to force a break. Benoit back with boots to the face and head, then goes for the Crossface again but gets pulled into the Rock Bottom for the win in 22:11 total. I can't really complain about this match, they tore it up.
Shane is in disbelief as Benoit rolls out of the ring, Rock bloodied as Mick looks on grinning. Shane helps Benoit to the back as Rock looks on, posing with his title as the show fades out.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This show had more good than bad, though there were a few misses here and there. Had an excellent cage match, Last Man Standing and main event, the opener was good, and the rest was kinda just... there. Nothing particularly bad, but they were either too short or just didn't click. With a run time of 2:41:21, there was a total 1:39:33 of wrestling.
