WCW Halloween Havoc 2000
We start with some words from fans waiting in line for the PPV, then onto our opening video package. Live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, Welcomed to the show as always by Schiavone, joined by Stevie and Madden as we get to the first match.
WCW World Tag Team Championships: Boogie Knights vs Rey Mysterio Jr. & Billy Kidman (w/ Konnan) vs Mark Jindrak & Sean O'Haire (c)
WCW World Tag Team Championships: Boogie Knights vs Rey Mysterio Jr. & Billy Kidman (w/ Konnan) vs Mark Jindrak & Sean O'Haire (c)
For once we have one from each team starting the match, with Wright, Jindrak and Kidman representing their respective teams. Wright with a cheap shot to Jindrak and a chop, then Jindrak off the ropes into a back elbow. Kidman with chops to Jindrak, then from right. Jindrak sent to the corner for a clothesline from Kidman, then a spinning heel kick from Wright. Jindrak sent back toward the corner, floats over Kidman, Wright tries for a waistlock but Jindrak fights him off before hitting Kidman with a clothesline. Kidman avoids a suplex, then he and Wright hit a front suplex onto the top rope, sending Jindrak to the floor.
Wright with a clothesline to Kidman, then some elbows to the back, then Kidman sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and hits a tilt-a-whirl headscissor, followed by a dropkick. Wright crawls to the corner as Rey tags in and goes for a Bronco Buster, but Wright gets his feet up to block. Disqo tags in with a swinging neckbreaker, then Jindrak hits him with a springboard clothesline. Rey ducks a clothesline, gets some shots in before he's sent off the ropes, tries a springboard crossbody but caught with a tilt-a-whirl side slam midair.
Sean tags in. Standing side kick to Disqo, then pops Rey up into a powerslam. Clotheslines to Rey and Disqo. Rey sent off the ropes, tries a sunset flip, Sean blocks it but Disqo capitalizes with a DDT. Disqo covers and Sean powers out. Sean sent off the ropes, drop toe hold by Disqo, running leg drop by Rey. Sean sent off the ropes, inverted atomic drop by Disqo, spinning heel kick by Rey. Double cover for two. Sean sent to the corner. Disqo whips Rey into him for a splash, then Rey whips Disqo into the opposite corner chest first before dropkicking him in the back of the knees. Springboard splash by Rey and a cover but Sean breaks it up.
Disqo with a Russian leg sweep to Sean, then Kidman tags in and goes up top, seemingly to land on Sean but hits a shoulder block on Disqo instead, makes the cover but Sean breaks it up again. Kidman sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, caught midair off a crossbody and hit with a Michinoku Driver by Sean. Wright tags in and goes up top with a missile dropkick, covers but Kidman makes the save. Kidman sent to the corner by Wright into a belly to belly on the rebound, but Sean's the one to make the cover just for Wright to break it up. Kidman sent off the ropes, popped up and dropped down. Jindrak sent off the ropes into a high knee and a cover for two from Wright. Kidman set on the top rope by Wright, who goes for a suplex while Jindrak gets him up on his shoulders for a Tower of Doom spot, double cover on Wright but it only gets two.
Disqo, Sean and Rey tag in. Sean with shots on both challengers, then Rey dropkicks him in the knee. Springboard leg drop by Rey to Sean, then Disqo goes for a powerbomb, Rey lands on top for a pin but Sean tosses him out to the floor. Knee lift to Disqo and there's a limp from Sean he can barely move as he leave the ring. He and Sean manage to hip toss Kidman back into the ring from the floor though, then Rey gets gorilla pressed over the ropes into the arms of Wright for a powerslam, a cover but Kidman saves it.
Disqo with a bulldog on Kidman, covers but Jindrak pulls him out of the ring. Wright takes out Jindrak with a crossbody. Sean tries a gutwrench on Rey back in the ring only to take him over the ropes to the floor with a headscissor. Kidman dives onto the others from the top while Rey gets Sean with a seated senton. Boogie Knights take Jindrak back to the ring, leg sweep/STO combo. Wright holds up Jindrak as Disqo goes up top, Rey crotches him as Kidman hits the Kid Crusher on Wright, makes the cover but Sean pulls him out. Rey joins Disqo up top and hits a Frankensteiner, then a Bronco Buster. Wright goes over the ropes as Jindrak press slams Rey over the ropes onto him.
Disqo sent off the ropes by Jindrak, ducks a clothesline, hits the Stunner, then tosses Kidman out, makes the cover, then Rey hits him with a springboard leg drop. Seanton Bomb to Disqo and the cover as Jindrak holds down Rey to retain in 10:06. Hot damn, we had an excellent opener here. I really have nothing to complain about.
Now Wright is just assaulting Rey and Kidman with a chair, then the champs join in on the beatdown and Konnan suffers too. AWOL comes out to make the save as he clears the ring. Refs come out to restore order and Konnan is down being checked on. Crew members are bringing out weapons for the next matches as AWOL pulls out a table and set it up in the ring.
WCW Hardcore Championship: Sgt. AWOL vs Reno (c)
We're reminded how Reno won the title thanks to Sanders, but the match starts during the relay and we miss Reno nailing AWOL with a kendo stick. Another shot to the head by Reno until he eats a boot to the face. Reno ducks a clothesline and flapjacks AWOL through the table, Reno covers for two.
To the outside, kendo stick to the back of AWOL, then AWOL face first into a trash can strung up to a ring post. Reno with a baking tin over the head of AWOL, then kendo stick to the back again, and again. Trash can to the head of AWOL and a cover for two. Another trash can to the head of AWOL, clubs to the back and another can to the bead.
AWOL cracks him in the back of the head with a kendo stick, then press slams him onto a guard rail. AWOL tries to put the trash can over Reno but his shoulders are so wide he can't fit inside, but it's still kicked into his face. Another trash can over his head and another kick to the face. Baking tin over the head of Reno. Reno sent into the guard rail before they fight up the ramp, AWOL choking Reno until he's caught with a low blow. Roll the Dice on the ramp. Reno finds a pair of tables hidden beside the table, stacking them up on the floor. AWOL starts to fight back and goes through the table with a side slam.
AWOL doesn't bother trying to pin as they head to the back, AWOL in control. Reno face first into a column, then AWOL throws a monitor at Reno's head but misses. Reno sprays him with an extinguisher, then Reno's whipped through a table that's leaned against a door, covers but only gets two. Reno swings a laptop at AWOL's head but he ducks before dropping Reno onto another table, but it doesn't break. Monitor to the back of the head before Reno's whipped into a steel door.
They make their way through the go/gorilla position and AWOL decks Fit Finlay for reasons unknown on the way through, before they head back in the arena. Reno is rolled down the ramp, then whipped into the guard rail. AWOL sandwiches his head between a cooking tin and paint tin. Press slam onto the guard rail, then AWOL pulls out another table and starts to set it up next to the apron. Reno nails him in the back and Rolls the Dice onto the table to retain in 10:57. Yeah this one went way too long, and was a lot of the same for most of it.
Reno continues the beatdown, nailing him in the back with the paint tin, then Palumbo and Stasiak come out to join in. Three on one in the ring, then Loco and Cajun come out to even it up, clearing the ring of the Thrillers.
Well here's some lack of continuity. Thrillers are all backstage somewhere, and somehow Palumbo and Stasiak are out of their ring gear despite just being in the ring wearing it during the beatdown. Franchise walks up and thanks them for taking out Konnan earlier and sings their praise. Wait now they're telling us this was earlier in the day, but the Konnan beatdown only just happened. I'm so confused.
Over to commentary to speculate. Then they talk about Goldberg vs Kronik, replaying footage of when Goldberg speared the ring post head first, telling us he was severely injured. Madden says the ring post is fine and is in use tonight, which actually kinda made me chuckle, I don't know why. Goldberg hasn't arrived yet.
Now backstage to Kronik talking to... some people, I don't know who they are. Adams says Goldberg isn't showing up tonight, but if he does he has a severe head injury and suggest they clear him. We're told those guys were from the Nevada State Wrestling Commission. Um, OK.
Time for an impromptu match.
Perfect Event vs Cpl. Cajun & Lt. Loco
Event have control as MIA is sent off the ropes, catch Event with a pair of dropkicks. Palumbo rolls out as Stasiak is sent off the ropes, drop toe hold and a dropkick to the side of the head. Loco the legal man with Stasiak as he delivers some chops, Stasiak sent off the ropes into a clothesline. Stasiak counters an Irish whip into a knee lift, then tags in Palumbo, who runs into a drop toe hold and a dropkick, then an arm drag. Cajun tags in, Loco with a back suplex, springboard elbow from the middle rope by Cajun. Snap suplex and a cover for two.
Chops in the corner by Cajun, then sent across the ring, gets a boot up, to the middle rope with a clothesline. Loco back in, Loco sent off the ropes, avoids a back body drop, then Palumbo tries a stun gun but he over shoots and Loco tumbles out to the floor. Back in the ring, Stasiak back in. Event go to send him off the ropes but they start arguing about something, Loco dropkicks Palumbo into Stasiak, Loco rolls the latter up but only gets two.
Palumbo drops Cajun with a right and Stasiak gets Loco with a clothesline. Loco sent off the ropes, popped up and dropped down with a double team. Stasiak counters an Irish whip into a gutwrench sitout powerbomb, covers but Cajun breaks it up. Loco sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, caught on a crossbody and a fallaway slam. Foot on the chest for a pin for two. Palumbo sent into the corner, floats over and hits a belly to belly overhead, another cover for two. Stasiak back in. Rights and stomps, then Loco sent into the corner, gets a boot up, caught with gorilla press but Loco counters with a facebuster midair.
Cajun gets the tag. Clothesline to Stasiak, back elbow to Palumbo, dropkick and clothesline, then turns around into a right from Stasiak, who covers for two. Palumbo tags in, sent into a big boot from Palumbo and a clothesline from Stasiak. Cajun fights back, then sent off the ropes into a sleeper hold, Cajun fading away as he drops to the mat. Cajun fights out, off the ropes, ducks an elbow right back into a sleeper. Cajun fights out again, hits a springboard DDT.
Loco back in as is Stasiak. Stasiak sent off the ropes into a dropkick, then a DDT to Palumbo. Event take control in opposite corners, Stasiak setting Loco on the top rope, while Palumbo keeps looking back for something, I'm assuming they're continuing the story of not being on the same page here. Cajun ducks a side kick and Palumbo nails Stasiak, Loco hits the tornado DDT on Stasiak for the win in 9:25. Another fine match here. The end was a bit of a mess, but sorta made sense with the dissension of Event.
Filthy Animals are backstage with who I assume is the trainer. Konnan's insists on going through with the match after Rey and Kidman decline taking his spot, since they already wrestled.
Torrie Wilson & The Franchise vs Konnan(?) & Tygress
Pre-Match: Torrie is dressed as Wonder Woman. Douglas has a mic. He says Konnan and his people might be too dumb to understand that when he's had his ass beaten, stay down and stay out of the game. Commentary question what he meant by "his people." He says Konnan and Tygress won't be taking away their title as the first couple of sports entertainment, after Jindrak and O'Haire taught him a lesson earlier, and Tygress has no partner, calling her out to get her ass franchised. Tygress comes out by herself and gets the mic and says she's ready to take his punk ass and her poochie ass out. She tries a low blow, Douglas catches it, Torrie throws her down.
Tygress gets in the low blow before throwing Torrie down, booting Torrie a few times into the corner, then goes for the Face Full of Stuff only for Douglas to pull her down by the hair. Douglas stomping away along with Torrie, then they go for a double Franchiser until Konnan runs in from behind. Douglas stomping away as Torrie takes Tygress to the corner. Konnan sent off the ropes, ducks a double clothesline and hits one of his own. Douglas caught with the rolling thunder lariat. Baseball slides to Douglas and Torrie, then Douglas sent into the guard rail. Douglas face first off the apron repeatedly then back in the ring.
Douglas and Konnan are the legal men as Konan nworks the arm, off the top with a double ax to the arm. Konnan choking Douglas with his shoe, then Tygress tags in. Double boots to Douglas in the corner, then Torrie comes in to try and make the save. Tygress just keeps doing arm wringers and bites the arm, then Douglas counters, then she counters until he decks her.
Torrie tags in. Boots to the midsection of Tygress, then she goes face first in the corner. Boot to the midsection by Tygress, then the Stuff Buster and a cover for two. Douglas helps to keep Tygress from her corner and Torrie rubs her face into the mat. Douglas tags in and applies a camel clutch and somehow Madden is the one to call that move and Stevie screws it up. Crossface chickenwing by Douglas until she tosses him out to the floor, finally makes the tag to Konnan.
Douglas sent off the ropes into a back drop. Snapmare and a dropkick by Konnan, then a DDT, covers but Torrie rakes his eyes to break it up. Tygress comes back in to boot down Torrie, then Konnan with mounted rights in the corner to Douglas. Torrie pulls the referee down to take the Face Full of Stuff. Konnan is dropped throat first on the top rope. Torrie hits Konnan with the Franchiser and spits in his face, makes the cover but Tygress makes the save. Douglas sent off the ropes for a double facebuster, Konnan covers and... oh it's over in 8:40. Well, this was a match that happened. Could've kept it on Nitro and should've been shorter.
Okerlund is backstage with David and some "doctors." David says it's obvious that "jiggalo piece of crap" is the father, and when he beats Buff tonight he'll have the blood to prove it, which is why the doctors are there. He says that he'll have the DNA evidence on Nitro and show the world what a liar and a piece of garbage Buff is.
DNA Match: Buff Bagwell vs David Flair
Pre-Match: So it's explained to us that this is just a First Blood Match. That way David can get the DNA sample he needs to prove Buff is the father, assuming he can make Buff bleed first. Buff gets the mic to get a cheap pop, then says we'll find out if Buff Daddy is the real daddy. He implies David has a small penis and says he's gonna whoop David's ass. David comes out with what we're led to believe is a DNA collecting kit.
Buff flips him off and sends David face first in the corner, then again in the opposite corner. Scoop slam by Buff before he struts his stuff, then David sent off the ropes into a back elbow. David sent off the ropes, booted and a swinging neckbreaker by Buff. David sent off the ropes, sunset flip is blocked by Buff and he decks David. David sent to the corner, does the Flair flip to the apron but decks Buff after ducking a clothesline. David up top and Buff throws him off to the mat. Clotheslines by Buff, then some mounted rights in the corner, then David does the Flair flop. Buff rips his shirt off, then makes David hits a low blow.
Buff is tossed out to the floor. Buff blocks going face first off the steps, then David hits a scoop slam. David pulls up the padding at ringside, Buff avoids a piledriver and back drops David onto the concrete. Buff sent into the guard rail, then David grabs a chair, swings and hits the ring post instead.
Back in the ring, Buff uses the rope to low blow David, then sends him out to the floor with a chair shot to the head. David's been busted open and Buff hits a blockbuster before the ref sees the blood and calls for the bell. Buff wins in 5:38. OK this was.. an OK match. It was as short as it needed to be.
Well now of all people, Lex Luger comes out, we haven't seen him since he and Rection were having issues, when he tried to get back on TV. He and Buff embrace only for Luger to hit a clothesline. Buff is tossed out to the floor. Schiavone: "How many times is Luger gonna turn on people in WCW?" Buff goes face first into the ring post and Luger leaves. Buff's bleeding from the mouth so David collects some blood and leaves too. We follow David backstage as he finds his lab guys, handing them the blood as he collapses. Goldberg is also seen arriving.
Pamela is elsewhere backstage with Steiner and Midajah. She starts to talk about Goldberg's arrival but Steiner cuts him off, rants on about how he kicked his ass last month. Then he says Booker has all night to understand he's bit off more than he can chew, all night to run scared, because Steiner's going to make him understand size does matter, and he's the genetic freak, and it's up to him to decide how fast he wants to beat Booker. He says there will be pain and no one gets up from the Recliner.
Three-Round Kickboxing Match for the WCW Commissionership: "Above Average" Mike Sanders (WCW Cruiserweight Champion) (w/ Perfect Event) vs The Cat (w/ Ms. Jones)
Pre-Match: Sanders gets a mic and calls the fans trailer trash, says while they've been spending their kids tuition in the casinos he's been training, long and hard, but this won't be a one-round Tyson match, no Rumble in the Jingle, no Thrilla in Manila, this'll be him dead in Cat's ass...? I can't have heard that right, but the captions seem to confirm that. Cat comes out with a mic and says no one came to hear either of them talk, and says he's gonna whoop Sanders' ass. So we're told it's three, two minute rounds, first to get a knockout wins the match. No idea what happens if we go the full three rounds without a knockout, there don't seem to be any judges.
Round 1
Cat ducks a right and a left, then Sanders gets a body shot in. Cat with some blows to the side of the head then a kick right to the face. Sanders is back to his feet at eight. Cat with another kick to the face then some body blows and a leg sweep in the corner. Sanders is back up eight again. Sanders ties him up to finish up the first round.
Round 2
Cat with kicks and rights backing Sanders in the corner, one kick toward Stasiak and another leg sweep to Sanders. Sanders is back up at eight once more. Sanders tries to kick but he's sweeped again, then Cat splits and hits an uppercut. Stasiak tries to throw in the towel but Palumbo holds him back. Sanders gets back up at nine just as the round ends. Between rounds we have Stasiak and Palumbo fighting, and now Douglas is out here.
Round 3
Round starts and the ref is now arguing with the Thrillers and Douglas at ringside as Cat corners Sanders with rights and lefts. Cartwheel kick by Cat lays out Sanders in the corner, then some more rights and lefts to the head and body. Thrillers cause a distraction and Douglas nails Cat with a chain-wrapped fist to the head from the apron. Cat just barely makes it to his feet before the ten count, but the round is over.
Cat jabs Sanders in the face, and we're told this is now just a fight to the finish. Standing side kick to Sanders. Cat starts beating up Douglas at ringside and sends him into the guard rail, and in the ring the ref has a 10 count going. Sanders wins by countout in... Well bell to bell this went 8:51, minus the timeouts between rounds. I mean admittedly the action wasn't terrible, and some of those kicks from Cat looked great, but a typical dumb finish from WCW.
Douglas helps Sanders to the back as the ref explains to Cat what happene.
The Nevada Commission guys are talking with Goldberg backstage asking his condition. Goldberg says he's not going to be kept out of the ring and ask them to leave.
Okerlund is elsewhere with Kronik. Clark says they're all about breaking necks and cashing cheques, and if Goldberg can't compete, they get paid either way. Adams says they'll give Goldberg his stay of execution, he has until the end of the night to rest up and get cleared, but they still get paid either way. He makes it clear though Goldberg will forfeit if he doesn't wrestle, so they win, he loses, and he's out of a job.
Awesome comes out. Then Vamp makes his way out with a new theme, I kinda dig it. He's also out with a katana. He gets a mic and says he's come here to fight, to kick Awesome's ass. He brings up Awesome's title match for the next night's Nitro and challenges him to put the title shot on the line since he's such a tough guy. Awesome takes the mic and says he's so confident he can kick Vamp's ass that he accepts the challenge.
"That 70s Guy" Mike Awesome vs Vampiro
World Title shot on the next night's Nitro on the line.
Back and forth to start this off until Vamp is hit with a shoulder block, sending him out to the floor. Awesome with a diver over the ropes takes down Vamp, before Awesome is sent into the guard rail. Awesome back drops him into the crowd and he crashes into some poor lady. Awesome in control as they fight deeper into the crowd up the steps, Vamp grabs someone's walking cane and wails on Awesome, and some fan actually tries to attack Awesome, and he gets some shots in before security rush in.
Awesome is dumped back to ringside as Vamp dives off the announce table with a clothesline. Back to the ring, Vamp with a pair of chairs now, tossing one to Awesome, clanging chairs together until Awesome's is knocked out of his hand. Vamp misses a head shot, sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, kicks a chair into Awesome's face, cover for two.
Vamp with chops in the corner which Awesome no sells and delivers some shots of his own. Vamp sent across the ring, gets a boot up and hits a forearm. Awesome sent off the ropes, avoids a back drop, then goes up top only to be cut off. Belly to belly overhead from the top rope by Vamp, another cover but only gets two. Vamp up top now for.... I think he was supposed to leap onto Awesome's shoulders into a sitout powerbomb but Awesome falls on his ass and fucks it up, then makes the cover on Vamp anyways for two.
Awesome pulls out a table, throwing it at Vamp, then Vamp slams his face off the table. Nail in the coffin and Vamp slides out of the ring. He goes looking under the ring for something and can't find whatever it is. Awesome ducks a clothesline and hits a lariat. Awesome goes up top as Vamp goes the complete other way. Awesome hits a sitout powerbomb on the floor, and now this is somehow Hardcore rules because the ref counts a pin for two. Back in the ring, Awesome back up top and he's cut off again, tries a superplex but Awesome fights back. Powerbomb from the top for the win in 9:51. This match was a mess. The most interesting part was beating up a fan, That powerbomb from the top was great though and the crowd popped big for it.
Okerlund is backstage with Rection, with MIA by his side. Rection references something that happened at last year's Havoc PPV, and says he came back so he could stand up, to get the US Title, for Major Guns, for the Misfits, for Hugh Morris, for Bill DeMott, for all the C-Team players, to make a point, and he'll make that point win, lose or draw.
Vamp is being checked on by referees and doctors, his head did bounce off the mat on that last powerbomb, wouldn't be surprised if he's concussed. He gets a round of applause as he sits up.
WCW Canadian Heavyweight Championship: Lance Storm (c) & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan (w/ Major Guns) vs Gen. Rection
Possession of Major Guns also on the line.
Pre-Match: Storm wants to be serious for a minute, he needs our undivided attention. He says Rection's interview almost brought a tear to his eye, because it's sad when a man can't admit he's beaten. He says Rection actually believes "Never say die," calling it American propaganda, and the fact is he can't beat because he's from Calgary. He says Rection doesn't get the gold or the girl, he just gets the beating of his life tonight. And the anthem is cut off as usual. The ref won't let Duggan keep his 2x4.
Duggan will start with Rection as they butt heads, then trade shots. Duggan with knees to the gut and clubs to the back, then Rection sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, sends Duggan to the floor with one of his own. Lance attacks from behind, Storm sent off the ropes into a back drop, then a series of clotheslines, sending Storm retreating to ringside. Storm and Duggan regroup.
Storm is now the legal man and thumbs the eye, Rection face first into the corner for some chops that Rection no-sells. Storm sent to the corner for some chops, then Rection sent across the ring, gets a boot up, then mounts for some right hands in the corner. Storm counters with an inverted atomic drop and Duggan tags in. Rection face first in the corner again, then Storm back in, Rection sent off the ropes, back drops Storm out to the floor. Duggan sends him off the ropes, drops down and Storm low bridges Rection sending him to the floor now. Rights and a knee to the face from Storm before returning to the ring.
Duggan mounts for rights, then tries to throw the ref out of the ring and he stops him. Rection choked over the middle rope and stomped on, then face first into Storm's boot. Storm makes the cover but only gets two. Rection fights back but caught with a jawbreaker, then a standing side kick from Storm, another cover for two. Duggan tags in, right sand boots and Rection flops down. Rection sent off the ropes into a scoop slam, then takes a football stance only to take each other out with a double clothesline.
Storm tags in, Rection sent off the ropes into a sleeper hold, but he counters with a back suplex. Storm is back up first and tags in Duggan. Storm avoids a back suplex, but Rection ducks a forearm and Duggan is hit instead. Rights to Storm, then Duggan, then a scoop slam to Storm. Duggan sent to the corner for a splash, then Storm sent off the ropes, through the legs, tries the Maple Leaf, but he's shoved off into the ropes and a powerslam. Rection covers, Duggan tries to save but Rection moves out of the way and Storm is kicked instead.
There's a ref bump and only Duggan is left standing and nails Rection with a piledriver, covers but the ref is still out. Eventually he comes to but Rection throws him off and he dumps Duggan on the ref. Elix comes out with a 2x4 but Guns hits him with the Canadian flag. She takes the 2x4 and Storm confronts her. She stops him from helping Duggan, who misses a 2x4 shot and hit with a Russian leg sweep. Moonsault from the top to win the title in 10:11. This could have worked if you didn't have Duggan work the bulk of this match, not to mention it was an overbooked mess. Rection winning made some sense given the story at least.
MIA rush out to celebrate. Stevie and Schiavone are also celebrating much to Madden's chagrin.
We get a hype package for the next PPV, Mayhem, which focuses on how Steiner is an unhinged madman. He's even in a straightjacket at one point.
Pamela is backstage with Jarrett. Jarrett asks if she's been handing out cookies to Okerlund, then rescinds the question because he might puke. He says Sting's gonna find out that the Chosen One is in the Halloween spirit, and the whole world will see the metamorphosis of Sting's career, starting as a nobody, moving on to a has-been, and finally evolving into a never-was.
We get a hype package for this bizarre build, with Surfer Jarrett accusing Sting of having no more heart, being a shell of his former self. In theory this could be a great match, but Jarrett's "Halloween spirit" comment has me skeptical.
Jeff Jarrett vs Sting
Jarrett wastes a ton of time walking around the ring jaw-jacking the fans, so Sting sends him into the guard rail to start the match. Chair to the back of Jarret then into the guard rail again. Sting and Jarrett fight into the aisle and Jarrett is dropped chest first on the guard rail. In the ring now, Sting with a right and a Stinger Splash already, then Jarrett face first in the other corner. Sting puts the breaks on as Jarrett avoids another Splash, misses a clothesline, catches Jarrett with an inverted atomic drop and clotheslines Jarrett to the floor.
Oh god I was right. Some guy is heard doing Sting's howl and comes out on the stage looking like Surfer Sting. I can't tell who it is. Sting is distracted as he makes his way down the ramp, Sting delivers rights to Surfer up the ramp. Scorpion Deathdrop by real Sting on the ramp, and now Jarrett is back to take control. Sting into the guard rail, then Jarrett into the guard rail. Referees help the fake Sting to the back as Jarrett and Sting go into the crowd.
Then 1990 (thanks for that one Schiavone) Sting comes down through the crowd as Sting suplexes Jarrett on the floor. Fake Sting and real Sting go at it, Sting having full control as they head to ringside. Stings enter the ring, Fake sent off the ropes and tossed back out to the floor. Sting follows him up the aisle, Sting with a bell clap as Fake goes face first into the stage set up, then hip tossed across the ring. Into the stage setup again and a Scorpion Deathdrop takes out the fake Sting.
Back to the ring, Jarrett plays to the crowd and... well it's usually Nash's music, but in this case it's Wolfpac Sting. Sting right on the attack. Wolfpac into the guard rail, then a bat shot to the gut and knee, back up the ramp. Another gut shot and the Death drop. Jarrett nails him with the bat as he runs up the ramp, then a shot to the chest and over the back again. Jarrett with a suplex onto the stage before taking it back to the aisle. Sting into the guard rail again, and again, and again at ringside. Jarrett with a chair to the ribs before taking it back to the ring. Jarrett stomping away, then Sting sent off the ropes into a back elbow, Jarrett covers for two.
Sting sent off the ropes, ducks an elbow but caught with a sleeper hold. Sting is already fading, but starts to come back to life. Sting rallies the crowd and elbows his way out, Jarrett sent off the ropes into a sleeper from Sting now, but Jarrett counters with a back suplex. Jarrett takes forever to make a cover and only gets two.
Jarrett off the ropes with some rights but Sting blocks them and delivers some shots of his own. Sting starts to hulk up and delivers some rights. Jarrett sent off the ropes into another right hand.
Sting sent off the ropes, hooks his arms, steps through the legs and as he's rolling Jarrett over for the Deathlock, another Sting tears his way through the canvas, looking more Crow Sting than Sting does, and pulls Sting under the ring with him. I think that may have been Chris Harris. Sting is the one to drag him out though and tosses him out of the ring, and fake Sting is noticeably bleeding too. Stinger Splash to Jarrett, then one to the back. Sting tries for the Deathdrop but Jarrett grabs the top rope, and the lights go out.
Yet another Sting rappels from the ceiling, Fake Sting into the guard rail. Sting takes the Fake up onto the announce table and it explodes from a Scorpion Deathdrop. Christ, that was a hell of a visual. Back in the ring, Sting goes for the Deathlock again, but Bleeding Fake Sting hits him with a guitar. Sting pops right back up and hits him with the Deathdrop. Jarrett hits Sting with a second guitar for the win in 14:42. I mean what the fuck do I even say about this? I can't even find out who most of the Fake Stings were. I've seen one site place Chris Harris as the bleeding Sting, and IMDB has Demolition's Ax as one of the Fake Stings, but it doesn't say which. Maybe the last one?
Sting is bleeding too now. Jarrett leaves celebrating. Schiavone's mic seems to have broke from that Deathdrop through their table.
Pamela is backstage with Booker. Booker says Steiner thinks he deserves the title, but there's a big difference between deserving and just talking about it. He tells Steiner to come get some. He also talks about Goldberg and his condition, says he respects Goldberg, and Booker's willing to buy him some more time so he can get his business donel, take Kronik out of the game.
We get the hype package for Steiner/Booker, which means for some reason Goldberg/Kronik is now main eventing this PPV. Then we have some replays of the last match, I assume to stall for time as they fix and clean up the ring. On the bright side, we have Michael Buffer to do ring introductions, which is always a nice touch.
WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Booker T (c) vs Scott Steiner (w/ Midajah)
Pre-Match: Steiner gets pissed in the go position when he finds out his match is happening now instead, choking out one of the agents until they head out to the ring.
Steiner shoves Booker into the corner immediately and the ref has to get between them, Steiner nearly clocking Booker but he ducks. Lock up and Booker gets him in a hammerlock until Steiner delivers a vicious back elbow. Booker backed into the corner again for rights, boots and chops, then counters an Irish whip with a back elbow. Steiner sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, hit with a forearm, Booker covers for two. Steiner retreats out of the ring to regroup.
Steiner with a knee and some clubs to the back, then a punt to the ribs. Mounted rights by Steiner, then some back and forth, Steiner running into a spinning back kick. Steiner sent off the ropes into a clothesline, Booker covers for two. Steiner face first in the corner and Booker mounts for some rights of his own, then he's sent off the ropes, tripped up by Midajah and Steiner clotheslines him out to the floor.
Booker into the guard rail, then a chair across the back before he's dumped into the crowd. Booker face first off some chairs, then back to ringside. Booker face first off the steps, then slammed through the makeshift announce table. Steiner taunts Stevie and threatens to bitch slap him before pulling Booker from the rubble, returning to the ring. Booker sent off the ropes into a clothesline, then an elbow, Steiner covers for two and Steiner nearly murders the ref.
Steiner with a surfboard stretch. Booker fires up and ducks a clothesline, delivering a neckbreaker. Booker counters an Irish whip to set up for the ax kick but Steiner has it scouted, nailing Booker with a clothesline. Booker set on the top rope, Steiner joins him to hit the Samoan drop from the middle rope, then some push-ups. More boots and chops by Steiner in the corner now, before he's sent face first in the corner repeatedly. Steiner gets him with a mule kick before hitting his spinning belly to belly, makes the cover but Booker kicks out.
Booker gets a boot up as Stiner charges, then leapfrogs and Steiner flies through the ropes to the floor. Steiner sent into the guard rail, but immediately rebounds with a clothesline. Back in the ring, Booker sent to the corner, floats over into a roll up for two. Booker ducks a clothesline and hits a back kick. Booker up top but he's cut off. Steiner tries a belly to belly but he's knocked off, then Midajah crotches him. Steiner back up top and tries the belly to belly again and Booker fights him off again, hitting the missile dropkick, covers but only gets two.
Booker counters an Irish whip again and hits the ax kick this time, then Midajah hands Steiner the pipe. No spinaroonie as Booker goes for the Harlem Side Kick, but Steiner nails him in the knee with the pipe. Then he slams the ref into the corner into a tree of woe before hitting Booker with a powerbomb. Steiner Recliner applied and another ref rushes down, but Steiner breaks the hold and hits him with an exploder suplex. Another ref rushes down and calls the match off in 13:31. You know this was a fun match, and I was expecting a screwy finish because I know Steiner doesn't win it until the next PPV. I'm a little torn on this finish, it does help cement him as a lunatic but it also kinda makes him look dumb, I don't know. We'll see how it plays out.
That ref gets hit with the pipe, then more officials come out and Steiner attacks them too, laying out everyone in sight. Steiner grabs a chair and goes after the knee of Booker who's rolle dout of the ring to the floor. Steiner goes after Stevie now and they have words for each other. Jarrett comes out to try and control Steiner but no use. He attacks Booker some more as Steiner's music hits, but Booker is announced as still the champion I assume by DQ. Doctors check on Booker.
Now onto the last hype package of the night. Kronik are made to look dominant as hired guns, while we're reminded of what's on the line here.
Kronik come out and Adams has a mic. All the hype and build for nothing, and the fans can chant Goldberg all they want, but he says he hasn't been cleared to wrestle and there won't be a match tonight. They said they'd beat him and now the fans will never know who would've won. Now they argue with the ref and tell the ref to raise their hands and their music hits.
But then we cut backstage and the Commission guys tell Doug Dillinger that they're clearing Goldberg and he's good to go, so he and security go and find Goldberg, who's music hits.
Career-Threatening Streak Match: Kronik vs Goldberg (13-0)
Goldberg rushes in and Kronik waste no time on the attack. This is one sloppy fight to start before they toss him out to the floor. Chop by Clark and some rights by both, body shots by Adams. Goldberg tries fighting back, then he goes face first off the guard rail before returning to the ring. Goldberg sent off the ropes into a double shoulder block. Adams pulls out a table as Clark delivers a DDT, and they set the table up against the corner.
Goldberg avoids High Time through the table, gets Adams with a standing side kick which sends him tumbling out of the ring. Clark tries a suplex, Goldbergs slips out, ducks a clothesline and spears him through the table, gets the pin on Clark. I guess it's an elimination match because Adams is back in, Goldberg caught with the full nelson slam, Adams covers but Goldberg powers out. Adams sent off the ropes, Goldberg leapfrogs and hits a spear, then the jackhammer for the win in 3:45. (14-0)
There's only about 30 seconds left in the show once the bell rings, so that's it for this show.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Well I have to admit this was probably one of the better PPVs I've watched from WCW in 2000, but that might just be there were more good matches than what they usually have. Had a good opener, the impromptu tag was fine, the kickboxing match was kinda entertaining, and the World Title match was good, so four matches on a show is better than usual. But you also had the Jarrett/Sting shit, the Konnan/Douglas thing, and the DNA Match. Everything else was just run of the mill whatever. With a run time of 2:48:26, this show had a total 1:45:37 of wrestling.
