WCW Week of November 6, 2000
Nitro
Recap of last week. We even get some footage of the Stasiak footage that was cut, where he says he's not Nash's puppet, and Nash can't use him, and he's going to prove it by becoming the first ex-Thriller to be WCW Champion.
Footage from earlier in the day, Midajah provides a distraction for Steiner to attack Sting arriving at the building. Sting fights him off before security pull them apart.
Cut to the Thrillers, with Nash making suggestions to commissioner Sanders involving Jarrett and a tag match.
Live from the United Center in Chicago, IL for this edition of Nitro. Welcomed as always by Schiavone joined by Hudson and Madden before Luger makes his way out to start the show, with mic and a magazine in hand. He makes his way over to commentary. He tells Madden to stand and brings up his comments last week on Luger's physical fitness, Madden tries to defend himself, Luger tells him to shut up. Luger calls Madden an endomorph, a gigantic glob of cellulite, fat, poor conditioning, slovenly eating habits, and a piece of garbage, before calling himself mesomorphic magnificence. He touts being 6'4" 280 lbs 4% body fat and having the greatest shape of any athlete on Earth, and tell Madden to keep his mouth shut about his body from now on. Madden: "So much for the heels working together."
Now onto other business. He says when he bashed out Buff's brains last week it was to make a statement, and the next statement is that the streak that sickens him, that beLittles anyone that made WCW, from the Flairs, to the Stings, the Nashes, guys at home like Hall (who I'll remind we were told by Nash was fired in the last few weeks), Bret Hart, Hogan (who up and left the company 3 months ago), Randy Savage, the Steiner Brothers (Scott is still on TV every week), Road Warriors (are they still employed by WCW at this point?). He says Goldberg streak of 176 is not gonna happen again, and he, a true superstar of the sport, a man who for over a decade has been the top of his game, is challenging him for Mayhem, and the streak will be history. Tony mentions Goldberg has Bigelow later. He tells the fans to cheer for Goldberg while they can because when he's done with him he won't be there anymore.
He's heard Goldberg's working on a book for 18 months, he thought he was reading it, but he's actually reading on. In his hand is a copy of WCW Magazine, which printed a full chapter of Goldberg's book, and he admits it's pretty good. He asks Ross Foreman, a stalwart of WCW Magazine, photographer, and at ringside to come into the ring. He says it's guys like Ross that make WCW function the way it does, says they've been friends, and Ross is a pillar. He hands him the magazine and asks which Ross found more enlightening: a chapter on Goldberg's book, or the interview with Luger. Ross flips through and mentions there's nothing with Lex in there. Lex calls the magazine garbage and is upset there's no article about him, says it's a conspiracy, that there's been imposters on the magazine and on the show, posing as wrestlers, women who take their clothes off for protein bars, instead of true superstars like him. So Luger gets Ross up in the Rack, which the fans eat up despite him being a heel. Finally officials run out to... well just stand there and do nothing to actually help the guy until Lex drops him. Luger says Goldberg's next. Christ that wasn't even 10 minutes long and it felt like it went forever.
Goldberg arrives.
Commercial
Ross is loaded into an ambulance.
Pamela is backstage with the Thrillers, and Nash is actually reading a copy of Goldberg's book. She wants a comment on Stasiak being out of the Thrillers and the interview that was cut from the Network. Nash says there's a lot of cliches in pro wrestling, one being strength in numbers, and by Stasiak's actions they're actually a stronger group. That's not how that saying works. Nash throws the book out of camera view and yells at someone to pick it up. Nash says talks about some schizophrenic rant Stasiak went on, how he should be a champion, and brings up I assume his title match with Booker at Fall Brawl, says it was a split decision and that he had the guy. He wants Booker tonight for the title.
Now up walks Stasiak all casually and says he owes them an apology, says he made a mistake, was instilled with the wrong advice, had everyone in his ears, and he's here to prove that he's with the team Nash tells him to take a hike. Stasiak says there's no sense in him and Reno fighting tonight and wants to prove it some other way, and says he'll be there for Nash in his title match tonight. Half of that promo made no sense.
Team Canada make their way out, Lance with mic in hand. He says with their presidential election around the corner, he thinks it's appropriate to give advice. He tells them not to waste time voting, because no matter who wins, America loses, and they're still gonna be American. If they want to improve their way of life, he suggest they don't vote, but instead immigrate to Calgary. He calls for the anthem but Kwee-Wee comes out before it can even start.
Lance Storm (w/ Team Canada) vs Kwee-Wee (w/ Paisley)
Kwee-Wee is busy trying to remove his entrance attire, so Duggan and Elix "help" him into the ring, Lance attacks from behind before sending KW into the corner, he avoids a splash, rolls up Lance for two. Atomic drop on Lance before he's clotheslined out to the floor. KW sent into the guard rail, Back in the ring, KW covers for two. KW up top with a crossbody for two. Lance with a jawbreaker and a standing side kick for two. Lance tries to suplex KW into the ring, then a few waistlock counters until KW springboard into a sunset flip for two. Lance sent off the ropes into a facebuster for two. KW counters a Northern Lights suplex with a DDT for two. KW sent to the corner, tries to float over but countered with a spinebuster. Maple Leaf for the win in 2:18.
Lance refuses to let go. Paisley apparently enlisted the help of Meng who runs out to make the save, Samoan drop on Elix and Team Canada runs away.
Commercial
Okerlund is backstage with Goldberg for comments on his match with Bigelow tonight. Bill says Bigelow is a hell of a talent, but it's beyond him why the guy's been at home the last 5 months. He says Bigelow asking for a match with him immediately is a wish, a deathwish. They've been to hell and back many times. lot of violent matches, and he'll be sure as hell glad to do it again. Turning his attention to Luger now, he says he's seen and heard enough of his crap, talking about being the Total Package, having the finest body around, having this title, that title, but it doesn't matter, the streak is still intact last he checked, Speaking of Luger, he interrupts to run down his titles, which is really just to provide distraction for Bigelow to attack with a pipe. Goldberg says that both their asses are next.
We're supposed to get a Hardcore Title match between Stasiak and Reno, but after Reno's music is played twice, he's seen to have been laid out by Kronik in the back, so Stasiak is announced the winner via forfeit, but Reno retains of course.
Commercial
Trainer is checking on Reno as the Thrillers stand by. Nash says whoever did this will be SOL.
Ric Flair makes his way out. Flair gets some cheap pops before moving onto business. Flair says Mayhem will be the greatest PPV we've seen in a long time, with Gen. Rection and Storm going at it for the last time for the US Title, promising there will be a winner; Luger vs Goldberg and the World Title. He puts over the big gold belt and announces it will be a cage match between Booker and Steiner. He tells Steiner that his conduct is unacceptable, and though he respects him his conduct won't be tolerated.
Speaking of Steiner, out he comes with Midajah. He calls Ric an old bastard and says he never liked him before grabbing him by the collar in the corner. He doesn't care if Ric is the CEO, the janitor, he takes orders from no one. Now out comes Booker for the save, taking Steiner down with a Harlem Side Kick. Steiner tries to get back in the ring but security pull him back.
Ric is reminded why he's retired before repeating himself. Because of what just happened though, he's gonna put a straightjacket over the ring, and the first to grab it can put it on their opponent and beat the crap out of them. Pin or submission to win. He also says that if Steiner puts his hands on Ric again, or any other non-wrestling member of WCW, he'll be out of a job.
Commercial
Oh good, more of this DJ thing with Jimmy Hart. He lists off a few names of people who wrote in to get in the ring, only one I recognize is Howard Stern and Kasey Kasem, two people I doubt were ever interested in this. He also brags about apparently beating up Bubba the Love Sponge or his match with Mancow months ago. Oh god, Mancow's here. He admittedly cuts a hell of a promo and threatens to beat him up, just for 3 Count,... or I guess 2 Count, to join in on a 3 on 1 beatdown.
WCW World Tag Team Championships: 3 Count vs Jung Dragons (w/ Leia Meow) vs Mark Jindrak & Sean O'Haire (c)
Pre-Match: 3 Count says their backs feel great now that they don't have to carry Evan anymore, and they don't perform tonight, thank god. Champions come out without the titles for some reason

Double pin by the Dragons and 3 Count break it up. Dragons and 3 Count double team the champions, Shannon hits a fameasser on Jindrak and Kaz with a roundhouse. Yang with a backslide to Jindrak while Shannon hits a leg drop from the top.
Two double suplexes by the champions on all four challengers, then turn their attention to Kaz, who's sent off the ropes and pokes the eyes. Champs clotheslined out to the floor, then 3 Count try a pair of roll ups for two. Spinning heel kicks by the Dragons, then crossbodies are caught by the champs. Yang is spiked with a DDT mid-catch while Kaz is press slammed onto the guard rail. Yang is hip tossed back into the ring from the floor. Shane gets him with a superkick, while Shannon gets him with a baseball slide on Sean, plus a moonsault to the floor. Shane with a cover on Jindrak, but Evan runs in to break it up. Leia also provides a distraction while Yang makes the cover on Jindrak, then Sean hits a springboard Seaton, Jindrak rolls over to retain in 4:04. It was a fine match for what it was, but Leia was early on her cue, and it was just a bit of a mess at the end.
Kaz tosses Evan back in while the champs start to argue with the guys from Battledome in the front row. Four on one beatdown on Evan now, then Jamie Noble runs out and murders Kaz with a chair shot to the head. Yang gets one too that isn't nearly as bad. Who are the babyfaces supposed to be in this?
MI Smooth has arrived with his limo and teases showing who's inside. It was mentioned during the match that Flair has reinstated someone, so I guess that's who it is.

Well we waste no time as DDP makes his return after months away. Think his last appearance was in July. He says he tried to get out but they pulled him back in, and he's gonna have as much fun as possible. He came to that conclusion a month in Amarillo, TX. He apparently had a non-televised match for the WCW Title against Booker, and he should've been jacked up when he got there, but he wasn't, Positively Page was a negative SOB. Could be because of all the crap that's gone on in WCW in the last year or so but the minute he walked through the crowd he heard a pop that nearly blew the roof off just like it did tonight. He had a moment of clarity, walked down the ramp and asked himself what he has to be negative about, he has a job he loves more than anything and gets paid for doing it, and he may not be the youngest buck he's got the biggest heart. He's living the American dream, and he's gonna have a hell of a time.
Couple weeks go by, he says he gets a call from Naitch to say he's back in charge and needs DDP, wants him back in WCW, he wants the hardest working, x3 WCW Champion, he wants the man who can make the people feel the bang, and Page said he's coming to Chicago to say he's back and he's jacked. Damn good to see DDP back and they kept it simple.
Oh wait I spoke too soon. Because now he acknowledges the Battledome guys in the front row who are seen talking some smack. DDP brings out Buff, Cat and Rick Steiner. Cat calls them low budget karate stars and wants to beat all five of them up. Buff calls them queers. Rick tells them to come get some and they jump the guard rail in seconds, security rushing in there immediately.
Commercial
Pamela is backstage with Stasiak. He denies having anything to do with Reno's attack, Palumbo's attack last week, then makes a note to himself to get a lawyer when he's asked dumb questions. He keeps trying to get into the Thrillers' good graces before leaving.

Jarrett grabs his guitar as Buff hits the Blockbuster on Steiner. Buff is nailed with the guitar as Sting and Jarrett fight to the back. Recliner for the win in 6:12. It was a fine match until we just started throwing DQs out the window.
Commercial
Plug for Goldberg's book.
Lance has joined commentary for this next match. For some reason Alex Wright is getting a shot at the US Title.
WCW U.S. Heavyweight Championship: Alex Wright (w/ Disqo) vs Gen. Rection (c) (w/ Major Guns)
Pre-Match: Disqo is here to translate for Alex as he speaks in German, even though it's obvious he's just saying what he wants. Wright with a snap suplex as Guns distracts the ref, then he goes up top, only to be thrown to his back. Running splash in the corner by Rection, then the moonsault from the top to retain in 4:54. Alright, a good little TV match.
Bigelow's on his way to the ring, his match with Goldberg next.
Commercial
First though, Duggan is standing in front of the Canadian flag to tell us what's wrong with America. He doesn't have 10 days, so he can't talk about the lack of respect for elders, or when a handshake meant something, or how an honest day's work makes an honest day's pay, but on election day eve, he can talk about something the "proud" American's might not know. Only 30% of them will pull themselves out of their EasyChairs and drag themselves to the polling place, and even though the choices might not be good, it's the best they've got,
Pamela is backstage with Booker for comments on what Flair said earlier. He says there's no love lost with Nash first, then he says it's about time someone stepped up to the plate to take care of business. He knows Steiner wants his gold, but makes it clear he'll die before he gives it up, and tells Steiner to check himself before he wrecks himself.
Career Threatening Streak Match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Goldberg (14-0)
Bigelow on the attack right away and hits a splash in the corner, before booting Goldberg out of the ring. Bigelow rakes the eyes before he's sent into the guard rail, only to drop Goldberg with a clothesline. Back in the ring, Bigelow rakes the eyes again as Luger makes his way out. Luger just smiles and waves on his way to the back.
Commercial
Steiner is back in the ring when we come back from break. He doesn't care if Flair is the new CEO or the janitor, he doesn't take order from anyone, and says Flair can kiss his ass before going straight to hell. As for Booker, it makes Steiner laugh when he sees him with the belt, he handed him his ass on a silver platter at the last PPV and it won't be any different at Mayhem, no drama, no mystery, he's going to kick Booker's ass. The only drama is that Booker's mama doesn't know who his daddy is.
Commercial

I kinda forgot he volunteered to be the ref for this, Nash sets up for the jackknife only for Stasiak to deck him too. Booker is pulled on top to retain in 5:01. Every Nash match ever, made worse by Stasiak nonsensically attacking Booker with brass knucks first.
Stasiak with crotch chops to Nash as Steiner leaves commentary. He pulls Booker T out of the ring and that's the last thing we see before the show fades out.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Well this show wasn't awful. Not a lot of good, but also not a lot of bad. Tag matches was fine, US Title match was good, but nothing on this show was utter crap, so that's a plus. With a runtime of 1:27:49, this show had a total 25:13 of wrestling.
Thunder
Broadcasting once again from the United Center in Chicago, welcomed by Tony joined by Tenay and Stevie Ray and we get right to a match.

Evan sent off the ropes into a clothesline, then off the ropes again into a back drop and a dropkick. Mounted rights in the corner by Noble, then Evan counters an Irish whip and sends Noble shoulder first into the ring post. 3 Count run out and attack as the ref checks on Noble, 3 Count hit their Samoan drop neckbreaker combo before making their escape. Noble covers for the win in 7:17. Several times where communication was off, and this just felt like a match where they got a bunch of moves in. Not great aside from that spinebuster from Evan.
3 Count continue their attack until Evan chases them off with a chair. Again, who are the heels here?

WCW Hardcore Championship: Reno (c) vs Crowbar
Pre-Match: So I noticed there's about 20 minutes missing from this episode. Commentary start talking about Konnan and Disqo as Reno come out, so there must have been a segment cut out, but I can't figure out why.

Chair to the back of Crowbar, then the gut, then the back as they make it net to the stage set up. Reno with a suplex on the floor before taking it to the back. Reno face first off a crate, then some chops and a headbutt by Crowbar before spraying Reno with an extinguisher. Back to the arena, Reno sends Crowbar into the set up before delivering a scoop slam on the stage. Vito appears out of nowhere to knock Reno off the stage with a Mafia Kick. Crowbar with a splash off the stage to win the title in 9:46. Yeah this thing went too long, and nothing all that interesting even happened.
Commercial
Crowbar is now having his hands raised by Rection and Awesome in the ring as the new champion celebrates.
Konnan (w/ Filthy Animals) vs Disqo (w/ Alex Wright)
Pre-Match: Konnan grabs a mic and talks about some pre-tape Disqo did, where he said if Konnan loses he can't say Disqo's name on TV again, but when people use the bathroom tonight they'll be saying Disqo's name anyways.

Stevie also points out the fast count as the Animals kick Disqo out of the ring, who argues with the ref.

Boogie Knights are talking to Kronik backstage, can't hear what they're saying.
We see footage of what happened with Steiner and Booker after Nitro went off the air, Steiner choking him out with the Recliner.
David comes out now. Commentary mention something about Steiner and trying to calm down, so there's another segment cut out. David says he's on a quest, he's still trying to find the father of Stacy's baby. He was in the back watching Mysterio, and remembered that Stacy always thought Rey was good looking. He calls Rey out to look him in the eye and tell him the truth. Out comes Rey and Tygress. Rey says he's not, then Tygress slaps David, and Rey says he'll be David's daddy tonight.

Nash and the Thrillers come out, Nash set to face Stasiak. Stasiak is out next, but he brings Kronik out with him, pretty much confirming Stasiak is responsible for Reno and Palumbo's attacks last week. Sanders gets the mic and recommends Kronik leave Stasiak and go to the back, threatening them with suspension. So Kronik leave, they got their money already so. Nash says it's the least of Stasiak's worries, because he's SOL. Sanders says Nash taught them a lot, to take the ball and run with it, but doesn't think Stasiak is the one who's SOL.
So all of a sudden the Thrillers turn on Nash and the ref calls for the bell, but the match never actually started. And to their credit, the crowd actually pop for it. Nash tries to fight them off but he's beaten down easily. Oh wait, now the crowd is chanting for Hall so so much for that. Sanders says they don't need Nash as Stasiak hammers away with rights. Booker runs out now for some reason to chase them off.
Commercial
Trainer is checking on Nash in the back.
Lance Storm (w/ Team Canada) vs Meng (w/ Kwee-Wee & Paisley)
Pre-Match: Lance is here to be serious for a minute. He says he's always asked why he hates America so much, but it's not that he hates America, he has intolerance for incompetent people and the US is full of them, and the Isle of Tonga. He says Meng let him down last week, and proved that if you want a job done right, hire a Canadian. He gets the job done tonight and will teach Meng some respect.
Storm slips away as he's shoved into the corner. Storm is overpowered again off a lockup. Storm gets some shots in now, taking Meng to the corner for chops, only to get some chops of his own, then a headbutt sends him to the floo. Back in the ring, Storm is sent off the ropes and tries a clothesline that barely budges Meng. Storm tries to beg him off in the corner only to be chopped and kicked down, choking Storm with his boot. Meng sent off the ropes to hit a shoulder block.
Duggan distracts the ref and Elix hangs Meng up on the top rope. Storm with a series of elbows and boots, while Duggan and Elix wipe out Kwee-Wee on the floor and beat him down. Storm sent off the ropes into a Samoan drop. Meng lays out Elix and Duggan tries to nail him with the 2x4, only to be caught with the Tongan Deathgrip. Elix tries to nail him with the 2x4 but Meng applies the Deathgrip on him too. In the process though, Storm wins by countout in 3:18.
Meng I don't think even cars as he finally releases them. Storm and Kwee-Wee butt heads and Storm eventually escapes before Meng can get to him.
Commercial
WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Mike Awesome vs Booker T (c)
Pre-Match: Another segment I'm sure was cut out to explain this, because this has come out of nowhere.
We get a shoving match to star off a lockup, which Booker gets the better of. Another shoving contest and Awesome gets the upper hand this time, before missing a cheap shot. Now some back and forth and Awesome is caught with a dropkick. Awesome sent off the ropes into a right hand for one. Back kick by Booker, only to be sent off the ropes and clotheslined to the floor. Awesome with a chair to the ribs, then again, before sending Booker back into the guard rail. Slingshot splash to the back back in the ring for two. Exchange of blows now until Awesome delivers a gut shot, then a DDT for two.
Booker sent to the corner for a clothesline, then Awesome pulls out a table. Another clothesline for Booker before setting the table up in the corner. Career Threatening Streak Match: Lex Luger vs Bam Bam Bigelow vs Goldberg (15-0)
Pre-Match: So Kronik come out after Luger and Bigelow much to everyone's confusion. They deliver High Time to the referee, then leave. I assume this is what Disqo hired them to do.
Goldberg ducks a clothesline from Luger and nails Bigelow with one, then one for Luger. Rights on both, then Goldberg tries a suplex but Luger retreats to the ropes, rescued by Bigelow as he's pulled to the floor. Luger's back in and backed to the corner until Bigelow attacks from behind, while commentary have no clue what Goldberg's streak is at, or where it'll be if he wins this match. Luger with rights and boots before Goldberg's sent across the ring for a clothesline and a splash.
Goldberg is booted out to the floor where the double team continues, Goldberg sent into the guard rail. Bigelow face first off the apron, then Luger, then Bigelow again. Bigelow whipped into a chair while Goldberg goes back to Luger. Bigelow is back with some shots and Goldberg into the guard rail again, then face first off the steps. Back in the ring the double team still continues. Luger with a suplex, then Bigelow goes up top with a falling headbutt, makes the cover but it only gets two. Luger with an elbow and a cover for two.
More double teaming. Goldberg sent off the ropes and hits a double clothesline. Spear to Bigelow, then tries to spear Luger but he bails on Bigelow. Goldberg tries for the Jackhammer, but something goes wrong, not sure if it's heavily taped leg or if Bigelow screwed it up. Jackhammer lands successfully on the second attempt for the win in 5:15.
Still not entirely sure if this is one or two wins, commentary never cleared it up. Luger has a look of fear on his face as he heads to the back. And that's the end.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
This show was confusing with how much was cut out, and what was on the show wasn't very good aside from the World Title match. I mean what else can I say? With a run time of 1:10:51, this show had a total 41:48 of wrestling.
