Week of January 15, 2001 (Sin Fallout)
Nitro
A side note before this starts, apparently Bischoff is back behind the scenes, with him and Fusient Media trying to buy the company, for what that's worth.
Recap package from Sin.
We go to exclusive footage from after Sin went off the air. Steiner, Jarrett and Animal are all embracing on their way past Go Position, and they're joined by Luger, Buff, and confirming my suspicions, CEO Ric Flair. Now, I don't know what the point of any of this was, of making this whole thing so convoluted but... OK I guess? Like why did Flair need a Mystery Man to take out Sid? And why rely on Buff and Luger to beat Goldberg if you needed a kid to do it? Commentary recap things, welcoming us to the show from the Allen County Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They also show footage of Sid's injury, not cut this time.
The Funeral March plays in the arena as Luger and Buff make their way out in suit, along with a coffin by random pallbearers. A graphic shows on the Nitro Vision to signify the death of Goldberg's career.
Buff fakes mourning as they open the casket, inside is Goldberg's book, a spear and a jackhammer. Luger has a mic and jotted down some thoughts, says they're as sad as the fans over the loss of a kindhearted man, the heart of a lion, Bill Goldberg. He says we lost a great hero, and he hopes those responsible have will be punished by Flair. He knows everyone has special thoughts and memories, his streak that that said the world on fire, never to be equaled, his second streak under pressure of never being seen, and then it happened. He says Goldberg was a great friend to them both and everyone in the back and the building, along with the millions at home.
Buff encourages the Goldberg chants mockingly and calls him a great man, and speaking for themselves and the fans, they know Goldberg will always be the man. Buff fakes some tears, and as he looks out, heseeshisface, but it's hard to see when it's 6 feet under. He says he loved Goldberg and says everyone should grieve. He invites anyone from the back to come out and share memories of Goldberg.
Out comes Jarrett who also feigns sadness, laying his guitar atop the casket. He came out tonight because has something important to say, one special memory of Goldberg to share. It stands above all the others, and hopes Bill is watching and listening wherever he is. All the time they spent in WCW together, he says Goldberg never beat him, says the Chosen One was never added to that long list. He says it's unfortunate Goldberg's not there because he was going to start his own streak and add him to the list, and proceeds to call him a retard.
Next to join them is, as Luger puts itm the hood emblem, the man who will take WCW into the next millennium, the greatest WCW Champion of all time, Scott Steiner, and the freak of the week Midajah, who's wearing a veil. Steiner's wearing all black. Steiner says that after last night, the list grows and grows but not without fair warning. He says he gave Sid fair warning to walk away, like he did Sting and Booker T, if you mess with him, you'll feel the pain. As Sid lays in the hospital, he found out why Steiner's going down as the greatest champion of all time.
He says he may not have hurt Goldberg at Fall Brawl, but gave him the worst defeat of his career, and is sure he wanted a rematch. He says he may have skyrocketed to the top, but says he wasn't man enough to stay on top, so there will be no rematch. He says Good riddance to Goldberg, and he and Midajah spit into the casket. Goldberg's music plays, and they cut to his locker room, but out steps Flair and Animal, who make their way out to the ring.
Commercial
Flair and Animal are in the ring as we come back from break, and Flair welcomes us to the new WCW. He says this is the greatest collection of wrestlers ever assembled in one ring, one one night, in the history of the business. He says whether we like it or not, in one night, because of a lot of thought and comradery, among great minds and great athletes, Page and Nash lost the titles. In one night, our hero, their supposed franchise Bill Goldberg goes down and away. He Double J, Animal, Luger, Buff and Steiner run pro wrestling as of now, and no one can do anything about it, except know they have role models, men they can look up to, idolize, and women can get up in the morning and say goodbye to their fat husbands, fantasize about a night with Jarrett, about a night with Steiner, or get Totally Buff in one night. He says they can wrestle, think and party all night long.
He says this may be the greatest World Champion of their time, it's not the NFL, or the NBA, but last night, Sid got his leg broke in two by Steiner, which is factually incorrect but alright. He says it's because Sid tried to be on the same plane. He says over the course of tonight he'll be interviewing all the punks backstage, and they'll have two choices: try and make this level, get on the boat as they take off, or be dealt with on an individual basis by any of them.
Nash makes his way out. Flair is not happy about being interrupted. Nash says he's not on their team. Flair says it might work against Nash, which, like if you wanted him on your team, why did you screw him out of the tag titles? And how do the Thrillers work into all this anyways? Nash says Flair must be the brains and Steiner the heart, he left Big Sexy back in Indianapolis, and tonight the killer is here. He says he's going to drive a stake through Steiner's heart and take his belt, and then he'll kill Flair.
Flair says he's a big man for standing along out there, while looking out at all of them in the ring, but Nash makes it clear he's not alone. Page comes out next, as well as someone from Detroit, someone Steiner knows well, has been pounding him since he was a kid, brother Rick. Nash wants a title shot tonight. Flair says he's the boss, but out comes Cat now with Ms. Jones, making it clear who's side their on. He thinks Steiner's ass needs to be kicked, so he books the match for tonight. Fuck me, there was some good to this, and the fans ate it all up, but when this finally ended, it's 26 minutes into the god damn show, this went too long just to make one match. But Nash actually had intensity and sounded like he gave a shit for once, so that's a positive.
Commercial
Flair is trying to recruit Crowbar backstage. He says he has a lot of respect for him and wants to know if he's a team player. Crowbar respectfully declines because he's always ben a loner. Flair says that anyone can hit someone with a trash can and wants to see if Crowbar can actually wrestle.

Rection throws the chain away and mounts with vicious rights, choking Douglas. While the ref has his back turned to the floor trying to pull Rection off, Chavo appears out of nowhere to nail Rection in the head with a chain. Douglas retains. (7:28) A slightly better match than at the PPV, but still not great. And now I'm confused by Chavo.
Commercial
Tenay is backstage with Rection. Rection is pissed off and says Chavo has forgotten who he is, where they came from. He says this isn't about the US Title anymore, it's about man against man, he's sick of playing games and doing it the right way. He's sick of being Gen. Rection, he's sick of being Hugh Morrus, he's sick of having his head handed to him every time he gets in the ring. He says Chavo opened the biggest can of worms in his life and vows to finish his career. At multiple times in this promo he also complained about his head being hurt. God damn, where has that fire been? And hopefully this means the end of MIA.

Nash pulls the straps down and goes for the jackknife, but Flair's men run down for the DQ. (5:10) Surprisingly decent match from Nash here, but nothing special.
Nash starts laying everyone out with boots and rights until Steiner delivers a low blow. Everyone ganging up on Nash until Cat, Page and Rick run out, and the show goes off the air.
Thunder
Still in Ft. Wayne for this edition of Thunder, with Schiavone and Tenay on commentary. These two man booths and the lack of Madden sure make these shows better.
Out comes Cat and Ms. Jones to start the show. He says he's going to clean WCW up. He says Flair's running around with all his little friends kissing up to him, but he's the commissioner and he won't be kept down, and you can't keep a great man down like you can't keep Goldberg down. He mentions how Totally Buff are bragging about ending Goldberg's career and says he'd rip them apart if they were out there. He's got the people behind him, and says he'll kick everyone's ass if he has to. He says Buff and Luger won't ruin the show even if they listen to Flair.
Speak of the devils, out they come. Buff says Cat has a big, stupid, ugly looking mouth. Buff puts themselves over and brags about taking down Goldberg. Cat tells them to shut the hell up. Luger says Cat's not the boss, he's second in line, Flair's the president, but if Cat keeps talking they'll do to him what they did to Goldberg. Cat's not afraid of them because he's got the fans behind him and he'll keep getting back up. Buff threatens to knock his teeth down his throat. Out come Kronik before anything can happen and they clear Totally buff easily out of the ring. Before they leave, Cat books Totally Buff vs Kronik for later before he dances into commercial.
Commercial
Apparently I was mistaken when reviewing Sin, because Meng does have one title defense before leaving for the WWF, against Bigelow on this show. Anyways, Kwee-Wee and Paisley come out, and Kwee-Wee gets a mic. He says he's angry that Flair doesn't want him in his new super group. He says he's all man, and says he owns the ring when he's in it. He says Flair's making a big mistake not recruiting him, so he issues an open challenge to prove himself
Kwee-Wee (w/ Paisley) vs Rick Steiner

Steiner eyes Paisley and stalks her from the ring, Kwee-Wee keeps trying to mount a comeback with rights to the head and body, then decked again with a right. Release German by Steiner, then up top with the bulldog for the win. (4:50) Not a great match, shoulda been a 2 min squash.
Steiner barks into the camera then grabs a mic. He says Kwee-Wee's audition is over, then spouts off his catchphrase before leaving.
Commercial
WCW Hardcore Championship: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Meng (c)

Meng face first off the guard rail, then a belt shot to the ribs. Bigelow with a chair to the ribs, then the head of Meng. Meng stops a second shot and nails Bigelow in the back with the chair, then the ribs and the side of the neck. Meng face first and over the announce table, nearly taking out Tony and Mike. Chair to the head of Meng again. Bigelow grabs the steps, only to be whipped into them after moving them from the post.
Bigelow choked over the edge of the steps. Bigelow with some kicks to the leg, slams the stairs onto Meng's legs. Bigelow working the knee now. Fans are so bored they're chanting for Goldberg. Bigelow wraps Meng's knee around the ring post as he's tossed into the ring, then again. Chops by Meng until Bigelow rakes the eyes, then works the knee some more. DDT by Bigelow, which Meng no sells. Bigelow tries the Deathgrip, blocked, then Meng succeeds and scoop slams. Frog splash to retain. (6:06) So, the last Hardcore Title match in WCW had little hardcore and more wrestling than probably any Hardcore Title match, but even then it was slow and plodding and not good, to no fault of Meng I'm sure.

Back in the ring, Ron sent off the ropes into a back elbow, then a series of clotheslines. Wiggle scoop slam by Norman, then the Big Wiggle and a dropkick sends Ron to the floor. Turns out Don's injury is fake (obviously) because he removes the neck brace and tosses it to Ron to make the switch. Back suplex gets the win for the Twins. (6:38) This might be the first time I enjoyed a Harris Brothers' match. That said, the H Bomb is a terrible move by itself, but a back suplex, which is just a one-man H Bomb is a shitty finisher. And, why are we still trying to push the Harris Twins?
Norman is confused and looks around for Glacier.

Pre-Match: Jarrett has some things to clear up before the match. He talks about how Page is outnumbered, how he'll be outsmarted, and outperformed, and calls him a string-bean slap nut.
Jarett with a right and a discus lariat, followed by a Cactus Clothesline. Back in the ring, Jarrett gets the jump and lays in with boots down in the corner. Page with some lefts and rights in the corner, then sent off the ropes, hits a sitout powerbomb for two. Low blow by Jarrett with a mule kick, then goes up top with a crossbody, but Page rolls through for two. Enziguri by Jarrett follows.
Jarrett with more boots, then Page sent off the ropes into a back elbow. Page choked over the middle rope, then Jarrett drops his leg across the back coming off the opposite ropes. Page sent off the ropes, tries a sunset flip but fights out, drops for two, Page flips him over for two, then taken down with a clothesline for two. Jarrett sent to the corner, gets Page with a back elbow to knock him back down.
Page sent off the ropes, ducks a back elbow, caught with a sleeper. Page fights out, sends Jarrett off the ropes but caught with the sleeper again. Page starts to fade, then starts to fight his way back up, bit fades back down, shoulders down for a two count as he pops up. Referee drops the arm twice but Page fights back to his feet, gets out, Jarrett off the ropes again into a sleeper slam. Page finally drapes the arm after an eight count but it's a near fall. Page with the Uranagi gets another near fall. Page up top with a flying clothesline. Page calls for the Diamond Cutter but Jarrett pushes him off, only to be caught with a clothesline. Flair's guys all rush the ring for the DQ. (7:41) I'm starting to realize how Jarrett's match is so formulaic and always the same no matter who he's up against.
Page is easily overpowered until the troops run out for the save. Big brawl in the ring to close the show.
