WCW Superbrawl: Revenge

Our opening video package shows someone making a collage of Ric Flair, highlighting his ego and abuse of power, ending on Revenge.

Live from the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN for what would be the final Superbrawl PPV, and the penultimate PPV in WCW's history. Schiavone and Hudson welcome us to the show and there's still speculation on whether Nash will make it for his title match tonight.

For some reason, earlier in the day Animal laid out Kidman during an interview with Tenay, so he's been taken out of the Four Corners Match that will start the show.

Six-Man Four Corners Elimination Match: Evan Karagias vs Jamie Knoble vs Kaz Hayashi vs Yang vs Shannon Moore vs Shane Helms
Pre-Match: That attack is making a lot more sense, though I don't know why you wouldn't have just had Helms win his qualifier in the first place. Or why Elix isn't his replacement when he's the one Kidman beat to get into this match, adding the fact that Storm is still the commissioner right now, but sure. Also 3 Count's music isn't dubbed for once on this show.
Moore and Knoble will start this match, opening with a quick exchange, Shannon avoids a tombstone, then a powerbomb, then sent off the ropes, avoids a slam, then Knoble avoids a sleeper with a back suplex for two. Moore sent off the ropes, Shane tags himself in, Knoble sent off the ropes, pops Knoble up into a powerbomb from Helms. Knoble tossed out to the floor and Evan sends both of 3 Count to the floor. Dragons with stereo Asai moonsaults onto 3 Count.
Back in the ring, Knoble sent off the ropes, swinging neckbreaker and a leg drop combo from the Dragons. Evan with a springboard crossbody on Yang, then Knoble avoids a roundhouse, caught on the shoulders of Kaz, who avoids a German and headscissors Knoble face first into the middle turnbuckle. Yang tags in off Kaz, who springs off a hip toss with an arm drag, then a swinging neckbreaker for two.
Evan tags in off Knoble, Yang sent off the ropes into double back elbows. Yang sent off the ropes for a miscommunication which results in a slugfest. Dropkick by Evan, then Uang sent off the ropes into a hip toss, then a full nelson slam by Evan. Springboard crossbody completely misses from Evan. Jawbreaker by Yang sends Evan into the corner and Shane tags himself in. Shane goes after Evan with vicious stomps, then some vicious rights to Yang, sends him off the ropes, headscissor into a rollup for two.
Shane sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, Shannon tags himself in, Yang off the ropes, caught with the Samoan drop/neckbreaker combo from 3 Count, Shannon covers but Kaz makes the save. Yang sent off the ropes, springboards into a nasty looking DDT that nearly gets fucked up. Shannon tags in Helms, who knocks Kaz off the apron, then Evan and Yang tags in Kaz. Rights to Shane, Knoble and Evan, then slammed into the corner by Evan. Evan crotched on a superplex attempt, then Shane joins Kaz up top to deliver the superplex. Yang up top misses the splash, then Shannon misses the senton on him, then Knoble and Evan miss a leg drop and splash on Shannon.
For some reason there's a standing 10 count with all six guys down and no one knows who the legal man is. Shane takes Evan to the corner until Knoble makes the save, then Yang sends Knoble to the corner, enziguri from Kaz, then a superkick to Yang sends him to the floor. X-Plex/spinning heel kick combo from 3 Count to Kaz. Shane up top with a crossbody to Yang on the floor. Shannon tries to fly out onto them but he's cut off by Evan, who crossbodies onto them instead. Kaz with a corkscrew moonsault onto Evan, then Shannon with an Asai moonsault on Kaz. Knoble off the top with a somersault onto Shane to the floor.
Knoble and Karagias takes Kaz back in the ring, Kaz sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline into a gorilla press, down into a spinebuster for two. Doomsday Dropkick from Knoble and Karagias, Knoble covers, Evan pulls him off to cover himself, then Knoble pulls him off. Kaz rolls out, Knoble gets dropkicked from behind by Yang and back dropped by Evan to the floor. There's some miscommunication with Ecan and Yang, then Yang screws up a springboard moonsault, then Yang hits a terrible looking Deadeye on Evan to eliminate him, and the crowd are not kind.
Yang with a dropkick through the ropes to 3 Count who are still on the floor. Knoble sent off the ropes, avoids a tilt-a-whirl to hit his tombstone and eliminate Yang. 3 Count miss a double clothesline, then Shannon sent to the corner, then the apron and dropkicked off to the floor. Shane sent off the ropes into a spinning forearm from Knoble. Knoble goes up top but gets cut off by Shannon, following with a fameasser from the middle rope, and Knoble's out.
3 Count gang up on Kaz now. Shannon with a backslide on Kaz and Shane comes off the top with a leg drop. Kaz sent off the ropes, caught with the Samoan drop.swinging neckbreaker combo. Shane tries to go for the Vertebreaker on Kaz but Shannon hits Shane with the fameasser. Kaz breaks up the pin for some reason with a kick to the side of the head, and kicks the ref in the process, covers Shannon but the ref is out of it. Kaz is pulled off before the ref can count 3.
Shane attacks Shannon, sends him to the corner, Shannon catches the superkick and delivers a low blow. Shannon and Kaz now team up, Shane sent off the ropes, clothesline and leg drop combo. Kaz tosses Shannon to the floor, backbreaker by Kaz on Shane, then goes up top but Shannon rolls Shane out of the way to avoid a moonsault. Shannon tries a stepup fameasser on Kaz, but Shane hits the Nightmare on Helms Street on Shannon to take him out.
Dropkick to the knee by Kaz, then a series of kicks to the knee and a spin kick to the chest. Kaz to the apron tries to slingshot with a DDT but Shane catches him. Kaz blocks a suplex, then avoids the Nightmare to deliver a bridging German for a near fall. Kaz misses a roundhouse, then caught with a facebuster off the knee, followed by a running neckbreaker for two for Shane. Scoop slam by Shane who goes up top with a sunset flip, but Kaz rolls through and kicks him in the side of the head, but it's a near fall. Shane blocks a second German attempt, then Kaz blocks one, then comes off the rope but he's caught with the Vertebreaker for the win. (17:33) That ruled, but this makes the whole Kidman thing even more baffling.

Cut to some security footage of Flair talking to Animal backstage. Chavo approaches them and is seen pointing to his belt, and Flair sends Animal away. No audio obviously.

Schiavone says no one's heard from Nash since Nitro.

Hugh is somewhere dark. He says he, as Rection, brought in AWOL when the man was searching for direction, who took him in and gave him direction, and felt the betrayal of AWOL when he turned his back on MIA and joined Chavo. He says Rection may have had mercy for AWOL, but tonight, it's Hugh Morrus, and he has nothing but hatred in his heart.

Steiner is in the locker room with Midajah and in walks Flair. Flair has an envelope and says it's Nash's career and the future of the company, whatever that means. Whatever it is, Steiner's happy and Flair tells Midajah to get the champagne.

Kronik arrives and they're met by Commissioner Storm, who reminds us Clark still isn't cleared to wrestle tonight. Clark has papers that say otherwise, but Storm says he'll still have to get cleared by the company doctor. Adams goes to join him but Storm sends him to the locker room since he has clearance.

The Wall vs Hugh Morrus
Wall with cheapo shots and breaks into a slugfest before he bites Morrus. Headbutts by Wall drops, then a back elbow knocks Morrus to the floor. Chops by Wall, then sent into the guard rail. Wall face first off the steps, then puts Wall's head between the steps and the post before kicking them into him. Morrus slams the steps down onto his back next, then they return to the ring.
Morrus up top connects with the elbow. Wall tries to fight back up but gets clubbed back down. Morrus sent off the ropes, catches Wall with a boot but Wall connects with a big boot, only to drop to the mat. Wall drapes the arm for two. More chops in the corner by Wall, then he tries to hang Morrus from the middle rope but he drops him. Headbutts by Wall drops Morrus and Wall misses a leg drop from the top. Morrus sent off the ropes into a spinebuster, but Wall can't cover immediately, eventually does but gets two.
Morrus catches a boot and delivers a low blow, then tries to drop him on the top rope but they screw up, so settles with choking him over the top rope. Morrus succeeds on the second try, Morrus covers eventually for a near fall. Wall with a boot to the face, then sent off the ropes, a flapjack on Wall. Wall keeps on the offense with kicks and clubs to the midsection. Morrus counters a powerbomb attempt with a back drop, very slow to cover for two. Slugfest now from the knees, then Morrus sent off the ropes, blocks a hip toss, go-behind with a German suplex. Morrus goes up top hits the moonsault for the win. (9:46) This actually started out alright, but slowed right down to a snail's pace and got a bit boring. Could have cut this down to about 6 minutes or so.

Morrus hits a second moonsault from the top before leaving.

Konnan tries to storm into Flair's office but is stopped by Animal. They fight until security break it up.

Tag title hype package.

Sean goes up top aiming for Jindrak, Stasiak pulls him away but Palumbo drops him with the Jungle Kick. Seanton Bomb on Stasiak gets the win. (11:39) Better than the two singles matches we had with these four, a bit formulaic but it worked. Good match and a clean finish.

Dustin is backstage. He says there's no love lost between the Flairs and the Rhodes, and says Flair conspired to keep him at home the last eight months. He says he's drawing first blood on the Seven, says the US Title will be his. Rick will never forget the name of Dustin Rhodes.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. (c)

Quiick exchange to begin the match, Rey taking control with a clothesline, then a dropkick sends Chavo to the floor. Chavo avoids a dive and slides back into the ring, tries to sunset flip Rey from the apron but gets countered with a hurricanrana. Back in the ring, Rey with a springboard sunset flip, ,Chavo rolls through with a gutbuster, then a front suplex onto the top rope for two.

Storm informs Adams his match will be happening sooner than originally planned, which is after this next match. He also avoids telling him where Clark is.

Recap on what Dustin's been up to since his return.

Rick as champion continues to be a terrible choice though.

Rick hits the Death Valley Driver after the match for good measure before spouting off his catchphrase. Rick tries to nail Dustin with the belt but the ref stops him, allowing Dustin to hit Shattered Dreams.

Storm is getting ready backstage and in comes Flair with some instructions. He wants Dustin out of the building, as well as anyone who isn't on Team Flair after their match tonight. He also announces that Kronik vs Totally Buff is now a #1 contender's match. Storm leaves to take care of business.

Page and Cat are getting ready. Page says it's just them two, that Flair's gotten rid of everyone else. They Storm is nobody and Cat is the greatest.

No Substitutions Match: Totally Buff vs Kronik
Winners earn a shot at the Tag Team Titles.
Pre-Match: Luger gets a mic and calls themselves the greatest looking tag team of all time, and now they're part of the most elite group in the business, masterminded by Flair. Goldberg chants start and Luger repeats they sent Goldberg packing. He runs down the Seven, and tells people to get used to it. Buff tells everyone to sit down and shut up and threatens to leave if there's another Goldberg chant. He brags about taking out Goldberg some more, and says they just need to beat Kroni tonight, and Clark has yet to be released for this match. Clarke does come out with Adams though. Clarke gets nailed in the head with a chair before the match begins.
Luger sent face first in the corner by Adams, Luger sent off the ropes into a sidewalk slam, cover and Buff breaks it up. Adams sent off the ropes and hits a double DDT. Luger dropping his hips onto Adams' back several times until Adams rolls over to get his knees up. Buff tags in. ducks a clothesline and hits one of his own, then a powerslam on Luger. Atomic drop on Buff, then some rights to him and Luger. Adams with a military press to Buff onto Luger.
Buff rakes the eyes, Adams sent off the ropes, ducks a double clothesline and hits one of his own. Adams tries a piledriver but gets clotheslined by Luger before he can deliver. Luger gets Adams on his shoulders as Buff goes to the middle rope, but Adams fights out to hit a back suplex. Buff tries to hit the full nelson slam on Buff, but he's attacked by... Clarke?
OK, so something I failed to mention was the lights were out when "Clarke" was hit by the chair, which makes this make more sense. The real Clarke comes from the back limping and it turns out the Clarke that came out earlier was Mike Awesome in disguise, for some reason. Luger gets Adams in the rack for a bit, then Buff hits the Blockbuster for the win. (6:27) I'll give them credit, I didn't see the swerve coming, not that it makes it any good, but Luger and Buff continue to be awful and have no business challenging for titles.

Clarke eventually makes it to the ring as Awesome heads to the back with Totally Buff.

Storm tries to have Kronik ejected from the building but they beat up security instead.

WCW Commissionership: Lance Storm (c) vs The Cat (w/ Ms. Jones)
Pre-Match: Commentary are sure to specify that Cat will only become commissioner at midnight if he wins this match, it's not immediate. Kronik has also been escorted out by security and the police. Storm wants to be serious for a minute. The calls himself the greatest technical wrestler in the sport and the greatest commissioner in WCW history, because he's from Calgary, he was born to wrestle, bred to win, and destined to lead. He says it takes a true Canadian to run the company, and there's nothing Cat can do about it. Even though the anthem doesn't play, Cat tells production to turn it off as he comes out. He calls Storm a fake Power Ranger, sucks as commissioner and the people want to see him as commissioner. He says he's not letting the people down because Storm will have to kill him, and asks the people to call his momma.
Storm outwrestles Cat in the early moments of the match, then does it a second time. Cat gets the upperhand the third time around, getting a drop toe hold and a spinning back kick right to the face, sending Storm to the floor. Cat gets pulled to the floor and sent into the guard rail after some stalling, , then into the guard rail again. Storm steps on his back while getting in a fan's face. Cat throws a water bottle in Storm's face before choking him with a camera cable.
Cat tries to return to the ring but he's cut off and has his knee twisted around the middle rope, taking things back to the floor. Storm targeting the knee, using the guard rail for further damage, elbowing his knee into the floor, before taking it back to the ring. More elbows to the bad knee, Cat makes it to the ropes on some sort of heel hold. Storm with knees in the corner now. Cat mounts a comeback until Storm kicks the bad leg out from under him.
Cat tackles Storm down after some paintbrushing until he's thumbed in the eye, following up with a scoop slam. Storm up top gets cut off and thrown down. Cat tries a scoop slam but his knee gives out, Storm falls on top for two. Storm start to wrap Cat's leg around the ring post. Cat tries to get his wind back on the floor but Storm takes him back in. Storm sent to the corner, floats over, tries to roll him up but Cat blocks and delivers a right, followed by an elbow.
Cat sent off the ropes, ducks low to avoid a back drop to deliver an uppercut. Storm sent chest first to the corner, catches a Feliner and applies the Maple Leaf, but Cat gets the ropes. Cat with a jawbreaker, Storm catches another kick but eats an enziguri. Out comes Sanderes and he gets slapped by Ms. Jones, then she gets him with a roundhouse. Storm is distracted and gets caught with the Feliner for the win. (8:12) Storm managed to pull a somewhat decent match out of Cat, though he couldn't do anything about Cat's lack of selling near the end.

Sanders tries to hump Cat but he's caught and sent off with Storm, so Cat can dance.

Hype package for DDP and Jarrett.

DDP makes his way out for the match with Jarrett, while we're told Cat has also been ejected from the building. Jarrett comes out with a mic and stops at the top of the ramp. He knows Page is dying to get his hands on him, but he threw out a challenge and Page has some unfinished business to take care of. Jarrett plays some very obviously edited footage, of what's supposed to be Page calling out Kanyon on Nitro, though I don't remember the full context of this promo. Jarrett says Page's big, fat mouth wrote a cheque, and his old decrepit body will have to cash it now, and it even has Flair's seal of approval. Kanyon comes out from under the ring to a pop and attacks from behind to get this started.

Diamond Dallas Page vs Kanyon
Page wasting no time going after Kanyon, dropping him with a discus lariat, then wraps Kanyon's shirt around his neck to toss him out to the floor. Kanyon sent into the guard rail, then a second time before taking it back to the ring. Page up top with a flying clothesline for two. Page with mounted rights in the corner until Kanyon delivers a low blow, sending Page out to the floor.
Page into the guard rail now, then Kanyon moves the steps next to the apron, using his knee off the apron to send Page's face off the steps and busting Page open in the process. Kanyon suplex Page from the apron while he's on the middle rope back into the ring, but it only gets a two. Kanyon with stomps down in the corner, then chokes Page with his boot. Page pops back up with rights in the corner, then caught with a Northern Lights suplex for two.
Kanyon toying with Page, driving his face into the mat with his knee for two. Rear chinlock by Kanyon now. Page fights his way out, sent off the ropes, and caught with a swinging neckbreaker for two. Page sent to the corner, gets the boots up, got in a fireman's carry but counters into a rollup for two. Page manages to drop Kanyon with a clothesline.
Page mounts a comeback again and hits another discus lariat. Page sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and hits a Uranagi, folding Kanyon in half for a near fall. Page caught with a sitout Alabama Slam for two. Kanyon caught with a sitout powerbomb for two. Page tries a Diamond Cutter, Kanyon blocks, they each go for a backslide until Kanyon delivers a low blow. Kanyon Cutter connects but it's a near fall.
Kanyon calls down for Jarrett who comes back with his guitar, but he gets knocked off the apron, Page rolls up Kanyon for two and Page falls on the referee on the kick out. Jarrett hits the Stroke on Page. Kanyon with a Flatliner gets the win. (8:10) Feel like it was missing something, but a solid match despite a screwy finish.

Kanyon mocks Page before grabbing a mic to spout off his catchphrase, before making the introductions for the next match, mocking Page some more and beating down on him some more. Jarrett even makes his whole entrance again.

Diamond Dallas Page vs Jeff Jarrett
Page pops back up and gets some shots in before he's dropped with a right from Jarrett, clotheslined out to the floor. Jarrett sent into the guard rail, but pops back with some rights, sending Page over the rail into the crowd. Page whipped into the sside of a garbage bin, then avoids a bin shot with a body shot. Trash lid to the back, then Jarrett into the side of the stands. Page takes control as they fight their way back through the crowd and to ringside.
Jarrett send onto the announce table. Page hits something resembling a DDT onto the table, then tries for a Diamond Cutter but he's shoved off into the guard rail, stumbling right onto Schiavone. Jarrett with a chair to the ribs, then again before taking it back to the ring. Jarrett stomping away, then some more rights gets him a two count.
Jarrett sent off the ropes, catches a boot and gets dropped with a discus lariat. Page caught with a jawbreaker and a clothesline. Jarrett sent off the ropes and slips around into the sleeper. Page starts to fade, his shoulders go down for a two count. Page comes back to life to send Jarrett off the ropes, back into a sleeper, then Jarrett caught in one. Page sent off the ropes and floats over into a DDT. Page eventually drapes an arm over but it's only two.
Page with some rights and another discus lariat. Jarrett face first repeatedly off the turnbuckle, putting some extra oomph on the last one, then a back suplex for two. Jarrett sent to the corner and caught with a belly to belly for two. Jarrett sent off the ropes, then caught with a Neutralizer for some reason, Page covers but Kanyon pulls him out of the ring.
Kanyon lures Page into a chair shot to the head, Jarrett covers back in the ring but Page kicks out. Kanyon hands Jarrett the guitar but he accidentally nails Kanyon. Diamond Cutter gets the win. (8:29) Another pretty solid match here, and Page looks strong. Wish it were somewhat cleaner though.

We still have the main event, but Nash's status is still up in the air. Not to mention the mysterious envelope Flair handed Steiner earlier in the night, and the fact Flair's thrown everyone not on his good side out of the building, presumably DDP included. But first, the video package.

Flair comes out to take a seat at commentary. Flair won't say what's in the mysterious envelope, but Buffer's here for the introductions. Buffer makes sure to run down Steiner's victims and how they've since disappeared since they met his wrath. Steiner takes the mic and kicks Buffer out of the ring, and also runs down his victims. He even makes a point to show Sid breaking his leg back at Sin, multiple time as he takes credit for it.
He says he hit Nash with a pipe and he cried like a little bitch, and left in an ambulance, he hasn't been seen since. He says Nash isn't so stupid after all, but he won't get away with it so easily. He says Flair knew would chicken out, and invites the boss into the ring to explain things.
Flair continues to call WCW the greatest wrestling company in the world, and want to give the fans the best. He says that not only is the title on the line, but the loser also leaves WCW forever, pulling what looks to be a contract from his suit jacket. Steiner says that Nash will lose by countout if Nash doesn't show up.
So the ref starts to countout Nash, only for Nash's music to hit, and Nash is wheeled out by nurses. If you've seen the gif of Nash in a wheelchair, cast and a blanket over his leg, this is it. Steiner says Nash gets no sympathy, and tells the ref to restart his count. Nash pops out of the wheelchair while Steiner's posing in the corner and nails him with the title belt.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Kevin Nash vs Scott Steiner (c) (w/ Midajah)
The loser leaves WCW forever.
Nash takes a mic to mock Steiner before pinning him for the win. (0:19)

Flair is losing it before he gets right back on the mic to change the rules on the fly.

No Disqualification Best 2 Out of 3 Falls Match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Kevin Nash vs Scott Steiner (c) (w/ Midajah)
Loser leaves WCW forever.
Steiner is sent into the guard rail and Page apparently hasn't left the building, he's seen walking backstage presumably to save Nash. He's nailed in the back of the head with a trash lid by Luger, and he and Buff stuff him into an equipment case. Back in the ring, Steiner's been bused open by the belt shot, sent to the corner for a clothesline, then across for another, then a short-arm clothesline for two.
Nash with his usual corner offense, then drops Steiner over the middle rope for a leg drop, before clotheslining Steiner to the floor. Nash with more rights, and Midajah I think is supposed to hit Nash with the pipe, but she drops it, then drops it again, so she just grabs hold of Nash's hair to no effect. Steiner nails Nash in the head with the pipe when he turns back around. Nash is deadweight so Steiner convinces Flair to make this Falls Count Anywhere. Steiner covers for what I thought was the 2nd fall of the match, but Flair then says Nash's earlier pin doesn't count.
Steiner mounts with rights with a pair of brass knuckles. Back in the ring, Steiner with rights in the corner, Nash is busted open too. Nash is dropped to his knees, then his back with some boots to the chest. Steiner with a spinning belly to belly gets two. Steiner with more rights and boots, then Nash sent off the ropes into a Steinerline, an elbow and some pushups. Backbreaker by Steiner gets two.
More boots to the head by Steiner, then a t-bone suplex get another two count. Nash blocks a knucks shot, delivers some rights of his own, sends Steiner off the ropes, ducks a right and runs into a sidewalk slam, but Nash can't capitalize. Flair is hyperventilating and leaves commentary to hand Steiner a chair. Nash tries to grabs the knucks but Midajah takes them away. Nash is nailed in the head with the chair, Steiner applies the Recliner, Nash still has life in him and manages to escape, dumping Steiner to the floor.
Steiner has his throat snapped over the top rope. Nash with rights and a chokeslam and gets two, Midajah takes out the ref anyways. Snake eyes by Nash, Steiner sent off the ropes into a big boot. Nash pulls down the straps and delivers the jackknife, covers but Midajah jumps the ref again. Nash gets her by the hair and gets her with a sidewalk slam. Nash covers again and Flair pulls the ref out, decking him with a right.
Nash grabs Flair over the ropes but Steiner nails a low blow. Flair slides the chair back into the ring. Nash gets his hand on the chair but Steiner stops it with his boot, nailing Nash in the head with it. Second referee comes out as Nash is put in the Recliner again, but Nash is out. Steiner retains. (11:12) The best I can say about this match is the live crowd was completely into this, and wanted Nash as the conquering hero. But this was still an overbooked mess of a match. Honestly Nash should've just won the title in that squash and left it at that, do a rematch on Nitro or the next PPV or whatever. This wasn't it.

Steiner and Flair leave without Midajah and Nash wakes up pissed. And that's it.
