Week of February 5, 2001
Nitro
Show starts rather suddenly in the arena. Nash is in the aisle, and Flair and Animal are in the ring. Nash calls Flair a crazy old jackass. Flair dares him to get in the ring to say it to his face. Animal tries to attack but he's sent into the guard rail and Flair is panicking yelling at Animal, tries to beg off Nash but he's cornered. Nash chokes him with his boot and says Flair isn't his boss. Cut to Steiner and Totally Buff arriving and Sanders telling him Flair is in trouble.
Flair gets a big boot. Nash says he's tired of Flair calling the shots, so he calls the shots now. Flair sent to the corner and caught with a clothesline. Nash isn't wasting his time with Flair but will embarrass him and strip him naked on national TV. Flair tries to chop Nash but it has no effect. Nash starts to make good on his word and rips away Flair's suit, leaving him in his underwear and wifebeater. Nash says this started off funny but now it's just pathetic, and now it's time to put a period on the end of this.
Nash pulls down the straps and sets up for the jackknife, but Steiner and Totally Buff are here to make the save, along with Jarrett, Sanders and Midajah. Buff holds Steiner back though as Nash threatens to break Flair's neck. Steiner threatens to break Nash's neck and Nash says they have no room to negotiate. Nash has his boot on Flair's neck. Flair is ready to negotiate some demands.
Out comes Cat as Nash's negotiator through the crowd, smart not to get caught by Flair's guys. Cat calls Flair grandpa and says he's in charge tonight, then Nash drops Flair with a right. Cat reminds them that he's in charge if Flair's neck gets broken. Cat books Steiner in three different matches tonight, because Cat is a x3 karate champion: Steiner vs four Cruiserweights, Steiner vs DDP, and Steiner vs Nash and a mystery partner of Nash's choosing for the title, and if Steiner loses Flair has to resign. Nash says Cat has spoken. I can't overstate how great Flair was in this, and Cat was actually entertaining.
Commercial
Flair is helped to the back by his guys.

Commercial
Flair is getting redressed backstage, he's ranting about being embarrassed and potentially losing his job. Steiner's more concerned about having to wrestle three times and says Flair needs to do his job. Flair blames Sanders for booking two limos for them and tells him to fix this.
Cat, Page and Nash are hanging out in the locker room and in comes Brian Adams to join them. Cat says Steiner won't have anything left after tonight and he makes Adams vs Buff for tonight.
Okerlund is with Rick Steiner, who's challenging for the US Title tonight. This was supposed to happen at the PPV, but Rick says he went to Cat, said they need some gold on their side. He says it's not Flair's WCW, it's their WCW, and wants to give Nash more incentive to beat Scott for the World Title. He tells Franchise to look long and hard at the belt one last time, because it'll be around his waist next time.
Commercial
Okerlund is with Adams. Apparently Clark is injured after that chair shot from Animal on Thunder, and they show the footage. Adams says Clark went home, sewed up his wound himself and laughed the whole time instead of going to the hospital. He says Animal didn't get the job done, but Flair has banned Clark from the building "for his own safety". He says they're scared and should be. He says he's not bringing a pipe or a chair, he's just bringing his fists and it's all he needs to get the job done.
Flair and Totally Buff are laughing at this and boast about Clark being out for three weeks. Luger has this great idea to book him and Buff against Kronik at Superbrawl in a No Substitution Match. Flair loves it and makes it official.
WCW U.S. Heavyweight Championship: The Franchise (c) vs Rick Steiner
Pre-Match: Franchise has a cast on his arm for reasons unknown. Commentary don't know what's up either. Franchise is about to cut his usual promo but he's cut off by Rick.
The ref checks the cast and it seems to check out. Rick is shoved into the corner on a lock up, Douglas tries to nail him with the cast as the ref gets between them and knocks him to the floor. Steiner face first off the announce table, then rakes the eyes before returning to the ring, just to choke him and take it back to ringside. Steiner sent into the guard rail, then nails Rick in the head with a chair.
Ref takes the chair away when he tries to use it again, Steiner gets him with a right instead and Douglas is sent into the guard rail, into another right. Steiner picks up the chair but the ref takes it away too, then they return to the ring. Snapmare and eye rake by Steiner, followed by another right and Douglas retreats back to the floor. Douglas sent into the guard rail again, then face first off the title belt on the announce table. Back in the ring again, Douglas snaps the middle rope into the groin of Steiner, then does his inverted snapmare.
Douglas stomping away, Rick mounting a comeback until his eyes are raked, then Douglas sent off the ropes, tries to leapfrog but caught with a slam. Clothesline by Steiner and a belly to belly suplex, then up top nailed in the face with the cast. Franchiser connects but it only gets two. Steiner blocks the Pittsburgh Plunge and hits the death valley driver to win the title. (6:02) I'm genuinely surprised. Like why not do this at the PPV? But as limited as Douglas is, Rick is even more so, why are we putting the title on him of all people? The crowd did pop so I guess it accomplished something.
Commercial
Flair is with Chavo in his office. Flair puts him over and says he has a match for Chavo tonight. You can't hear a word they're saying, but they're interrupted as Flair sees Dustin Rhodes come to the ring on his monitor.
Dustin says he's not finished stomping Flair's ass, not by a long shot. He says everyone wants a piece of Flair. Flair appears on the Nitro Vision and says Dustin will never work there. Dustin calls him out as Flair rants and raves, Dustin has his mic cut. Flair calls for security.
Commercial
Dustin was taken out of the arena by security during the break. The footage gets cut and we're told Flair ordered it to be cut immediately, because Dustin wasn't getting another second of screen time.
Diamond Dallas Page vs Scott Steiner (WCW World Heavyweight Champion) (w/ Midajah)
Page starts with rights and a discus lariat, then sent off the ropes, catches Steiner with a Uranagi for two. Cactus clothesline to the floor followed by some boots from Page, before he's sent into the guard rail. Page dropped onto the guard rail, then sends Steiner face first off the apron. Back in the ring, Page up top but Midajah crotches him on the rope. Steiner with a powerslam into the opposite corner drops Page in a tree of woe, Steiner wrenching on the neck from the floor. Page is back up, rights and lefts, then Steiner sent across the ring, boot up and a spinning belly to belly for a near fall. Steiner clubs down the ref, then avoids the Diamond Cutter. Page sent off the ropes, floats over and around for the Diamond Cutter. Page wakes up the ref who calls for the DQ. (4:29) Fun enough match here for how short it was.
Page celebrates with the fans only to be attacked from behind by Jarrett and a returning Kanyon, no longer Positively. Page is helped to the back by security. Steiner is helped back up by Midajah in a daze.
Commercial
Page is checked on by Cat, Nash, Kronik and Rick as the trainer comes by.
Kanyon and Jarrett escape in a limo.
Pre-Match: Pictured above is El Nino, who we're told was scouted by Flair and Chavo Sr. down in Mexico, which I guess is what Flair was mumbling earlier. Commentary have nothing on him.
Chavo overpowers with a shoulder block, then a cheap shot takes Nino to the corner for boots, then a pair of face washes. Nino whiplashed into the corner, then a back suplex by Chavo for two. Back in the ring, Chavo covers for two. Headlock by Chavo, Nino fights out, off the ropes right into a knee to the gut for two.
Nino sent off the ropes,. rolls through on a powerbomb for two, then dropped with a clothesline. Nino sent off the ropes, springboard into a moonsault, caught, sends Chavo to the corner, delivers a tilt-a-whirl headscissor. Rollup by Nino for two, then caught with a double ax. Nino sent toward the ropes, ,comes back with a facebuster, then a springboard leg drop gets the win. (6:48) OK it could not be more obvious El Nino was Rey, and I'm beyond confused to what's going on. I can only assume Rey took the real El Nino's place?
Rey unmasks, gets Chavo with a drop toe hold in the corner and hits the Bronco Buster.

Palumbo hits one on Awesome then eats a superkick from Storm, and Sean gets him with a heel kick. Storm floats over Sean but eats a side kick. Somehow this blinds Storm and he puts Awesome in the Maple Leaf? Elix runs out to point it out then he's clotheslined out by Palumbo into Elix. Jungle Kick and the Seanton Bomb on Awesome gets the win. (7:41) Despite the confusing finish, it was a good match.
Jindrak and Stasiak are watching this backstage. Jindrak's mad for some reason and calls them lucky. Stasiak says they know where the real talent lied in the Thrillers, and they'll walk out the new champions at Superbrawl.
