Week of February 19, 2001 (Superbrawl Fallout)

Nitro
Recap package of the PPV.

Video after Superbrawl went off the air, Nash is seen walking backstage, speechless, with stunned onlookers on his way out.

To the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, AL, for the funeral of Kevin Nash's career, which I hope isn't nearly as long as the funeral for Goldberg's career. Pallbearers bring out a casket, and they're followed by the Seven. Flair starts the eulogy, to honor a man who walked among giants, who left a mark on the business that will never be forgotten, one of the founding fathers of the NWO. He says Nash was a special kind of athlete that comes along once in a lifetime, and now tragically his career has come to an end. Flair then boasts about taking out Nash and says no one's left to stand against them, or to stand at all.
Steiner says Flair proved his greatness, by making the stips, bend the rules, and break Nash's back and send him into early retirement. Their motto in the new WCW is "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing" and if he has to break bones and break rules, they'll do it. He says they're looking at history and he's making it, no one else has blazed such a destruction, because he's a genetic freak. He runs down his victims, each gets their own R.I.P.  graphic. He says Nash crossed a line when he put his hands on Midajah, and warns Nash he's not done with him.
He makes it clear DDP is his next target as Kanyon pops out of the coffin. Steiner runs through some matches for tonight; Buff vs Cat, Jarrett vs Dustin, and Kanyon vs Page, and tells them to destroy everyone. Page vs Steiner is also apparently set for the next PPV, Greed.
Out comes Jarrett to his dub theme again and through the crowd. Page says he's been to hell and Steiner can't do anything to him as long as he gets Steiner at Greed. Page is fine with facing Kanyon again, and promises to be the last man standing, and make Kanyon feel the bang. Steiner meanwhile loses it in the ring.

Commercial

Cat and Ms. Jones are backstage and they congratulate each other on their work last night. He announces the creation of the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles, and starting next week, eight teams will be in a tournament, ending at Greed. He promises to whip Buff again and call Mama Bagwell.

Shannon Moore vs Jamie Knoble (w/ Evan Karagias)
Quick exchange to start the match after Shannon misses a clothesline, Knoble coming off the top with a dropkick to take control. Shannon sent to the corner, tries to float over but catches Knoble with a headscissor. Shannon leaps at Knoble in the corner but gets hung up and dropped with a scoop slam. Knoble gets cut off up top and caught with a hurricanrana for two.
Knoble avoids a German suplex and delivers a hip toss, then caught with another headscissor. Knoble avoids a monkey flip and turns Shannon inside out with a clothesline. Northern Lights suplex by Knoble for two. Shannon face first in the corner, sent across the ring, gets the boots up, goes up top with a corkscrew moonsault for two. Knoble sent to the corner for a dropkick and a two count.
Shannon sent toward the corner, floats to the apron, each duck a clothesline and Shannon hits one, before missing a slingshot senton as Knoble slides out. Shannon with a baseball slide and a dive over the ropes takes out Knoble. Shannon ducks a clotheslines from Evan, who also swings over Knoble's head, so Shannon can dropkick Knoble into Evan and into the steps. Shannon popped up to the apron only to be yanked down to the floor. Knoble tosses Shannon back in and gets on the apron, then Evan hits him with a DDT behind the ref's back. Shannon with the stepup fameasser for the win. (4:46) Decent opener. Hoping this is the end of the Knoble/Karagias tag team.

Evan and Shannon double team Knoble now and celebrate together.

Commercial

Konnan and Kidman are talking backstage about Animal and Chavo's actions at the PPV. Konnan suggests a tag team match and Kidman's down.

"Canadian Killer" Mike Awesome vs Bryan Clark
Slugfest to start until Awesome's pummeled into the corner with rights, boots and chops. Awesome face first off the buckle, then Elix comes out, then gets sent off the ropes, tries a wheelbarrow but gets planted on his back. Storm runs in now, gets clubbed down, and the ref calls for the bell. (1:01)

Awesome gets a German from Awesome and a triple team ensues. Adams makes his way out to make the save, giving Storm a gorilla press into a gutbuster. High Time for Elix, then for Awesome.

Cat is seen walking backstage with security, telling them to keep Storm in the ring for something.

Commercial

Cat is already out with security confronting Storm when we return from break. Cat said Storm did a lot of dirty things as commissioner in the short span of a week, so he's going to pay Storm back for everyone. He says Storm is facing someone who hates him and someone that Storm probably figured he'd never face again. Hugh Morrus appears on Nitro Vision to cackle for a while. Cat says that if Awesome or Elix interfere they'll be sent home to Saskatchewan making pancakes when Cat fires them.

Hype package for Kid Romeo.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. (WCW Cruiserweight Champion) & Road Warrior Animal(?) vs Billy Kidman & Konnan(?)
Pre-Match: While Chavo's making his entrance, we cut to the back and Animal and Konnan are fighting somewhere. Chavo's distracted watching this allowing Kidman to attack from behind and start the match.
Chavo caught with a facebuster and a dropkic, then sent to the corner into a back drop. Chavo sent across the ring chest first and caught with a clothesline. There's a commercial break here and when we come back, referees are now trying to break apart Kidman and Chavo despite this being a scheduled match. Konnan and  Animal make their way out now
I think this match is still going, referees except the one leave the ring, Chavo's sent to the corner, gets the boots up, and hits the tornado DDT. Chavo clubs Konnan from behind in the aisle before tossing him into the ring. Chavo sent to the corner, tries to float over but sent to the apron, sent to the floor with a springboard dropkick. Kidman takes it back in the ring, Chavo sent off the ropes into a back drop, then Konnan gets a shot in from the apron. Chavo sent off the ropes into a back elbow and a kip up. Scoop slam by Kidman, then misses a splash off the top.
Chavo tries to tag out but Konnan tags in, cuts him off with a rollup for two. Konnan with some modified figure 4 until Animal makes the save. Chavo with boots in the corner then some facewashing. Konnan clubbed down by Animal who chokes him over the bottom rope. Chavo sent off the ropes into the rolling thunder clothesline and Kidman's back in.
Chavo sent to the corner for a splash, then Animal runs in to club and stomp down Kidman. Discus forearm and a dropkick, then a flying forearm and double clothesline sends Animal to the floor. Chavo sent off the ropes, leapfrogs over Chavo, he and Konnan screw up a facejam. Kidman goes up top but Animal pulls Chavo out of the ring. Kidman crossbody onto Animal is caught but Konnan takes them out with a cannonball. Chavo misses a double axe on Konnan and eats a clothesline from Kidman.
Back in the ring, Chavo off the ropes into a sitout spinebuster. Ref is busy dealing with Animal and Konnan brawling allowing Rey to come out and hit a diving leg drop to the groin of Chavo. Kid Krusher gets the win. (6:51) An OK match but Konnan and Animal dragged it down.

Animal comes in to hit a sitout powerbomb on Kidman before he leaves with Chavo.

Buff Bagwell vs  The Cat (w/ Miss Jones)
Pre-Match: Cat thinks the fans still love Buff, he knows Buff loves his mom like Cat loves his own, and says it's not too late to give the people what they want. Buff tries a sunset flip, but he's decked, and Ms. Jones has the ref distracted for some reason as Cat hits an elbow on Buff. Kanyon on the apron, ducks a kick from Cat, holds it over the ropes so Buff can attack. Double-arm DDT and a blockbuster gets the win. (6:30)

Ms. Jones confronts Kanyon and Buff. Kanyon gets her with the Kanyon Cutter and a trainer is quickly out to check on her. Buff and Kanyon continue to attack Cat only to be caught with a dropkick and sent packing.

Back in the ring, Lash sent off the ropes into a nasty clothesline. Elbow by Steiner gets two. Inverted powerslam into the corner by Steiner, then a German suplex. Rick gouging at the face of Lash repeatedly, then sends him to the corner. Lash gets a boot up but runs right into a clothesline. Three death valley drivers get the win. (3:48) Probably Rick's best match in forever but that's not saying much.

Commercial

Meineke commercial with George Foreman.

Trainer checks on Lash in the back.

Scott is talking to Kanyon in the back. Steiner tells him to hit a bunch of Kanyon Cutters on Page to break him physically and mentally, he wants Page hurt. Kanyon says Page won't make it to Thunder let alone Greed. Steiner hands Kanyon his brass knuckles that he used on Nash the night before.

Morrus is elsewhere and challenges Rick to a match at some point before laughing at Storm.

Lance Storm vs Hugh Morrus
Team Canada banned from ringside.
Pre-Match: Lance wants to be serious for a minute. He says he's not commissioner, but he's not letting Cat get the last laugh. He doesn't care if it's Morrus, Rection, or Bill DeMott, he's beaten him before an will do it again, because he's from Calgary, born to wrestle and bred to win. He asks the classless fans to stand for the anthem. There's a commercial break and it seems they had the anthem on loop until Morrus interrupts.
Storm gets a break on a waistlock in the corner and proceeds to chop Morrus to no effect, and he counters with some of his own. Storm sent across the ring and rebounds into a lariat, sending Storm to the floor for a breather. Back in the ring, Storm with a cheap shot, then sent off the ropes, ducks a back elbow, tries a crucifix but caught with a Samoan drop.
Morrus goes up top already but he's cut off and hung upside down by the knee. Storm stomping away, then Morrus counters a suplex with one of his, clutching the knee after impact. Storm with more shots as he taunts Morrus, then sent across the ring, floats over, caught with a back elbow, Morrus catches a dropkick and catapults Storm into the corner. Storm rolled up for two, then gets Morrus with a dropkick, slow to cover for two.

Pair of lariats by Morrus before taking it back to the ring, Storm tries to beg him off, then he's sent off the ropes into a back drop. Morrus with a splash in the corner, then Storm sent across the ring and he misses a second splash, nailing Morrus with a superkick. Storm applies the Maple Leaf on the bad knee, using his brace for leverage but Morrus makes it to the ropes. Storm sent of the ropes, each ducks a clothesline and Storm is caught with a powerslam. Morrus hits the top rope moonsault for the win. (5:56) Wish this went a little longer. Sure felt like that last sequence was rushed.

Someone is walking backstage.

Commercial

Dusty's music hits and commentary think this is Dusty despite what we just saw, but it's actually Jarrett.
Jarrett also has a bucket of KFC in the ring. "Dusty" says he's back on track and is ready to get spunky like a spunky monkey. He's as proud of Dustin as Dustin is of him, but there's one thing no one can take Dustin as long as he's in his corner. There's one thing that has him perturbed, and that's Jeff Jarrett. He says Dustin doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell against the Chosen One, Dustin's outnumbered, outclassed and outdone. He says he'd love to come to Dustin's rescue and clobber the Chosen One, and he's gonna put on an exhibition.
So Jarrett calls out some wrestlers, some of whom I'm pretty sure I recognize but can't put a name to, to imitate Dusty some more for some slow motion shots and elbows, then caps it off with some Shattered Dreams to one of them. He tells himself to kiss his big fat ass.
Dustin's finally here to put an end to this, but Rick is here before he can do anything. Dustin ducks a clothesline and hits a bulldog, only for Jarrett to nail him with a guitar. Jarrett says he was giving his boy some attitude adjustment before telling him to choke on it. That was awful and Jarrett can't do a Dusty impression worth shit.

Commercial

Commentary pay tribute to Dale Earnhardt, who passed away the day before.

Kanyon vs Diamond Dallas Page
Pre-Match: Kanyon is out here in his "Positively" Kanyon look as he brags about beating DDP the night before and will do it again tonight.

Kanyon sent to the corner, gets a boot up, sends Page face first into the mat for two.
Kanyon with a rear chinlock. Page fights out only to be slammed back down for two, into another rear chinlock. Page backs Kanyon into a corner with rights and lefts, dropping him with a discus lariat. Kanyon face first off the top turnbuckle repeatedly, followed by a back suplex.
Page calls for the Diamond Cutter but gets caught with a low blow and the Kanyon Cutter but it only gets two. Kanyon grabs a chair. Referee takes the ref away, but nails Page with a copy of the "Positively" Kanyon book, loaded with a brick, behind the ref's back for a near fall. Page avoids the brass knuckles and hits the Diamond Cutter for the win. (7:15) Another excellent match.

Steiner makes his way out with a pipe but Page makes a quick retreat before anything happens. Page says he's still standing as the  Seven look on pissed.

Crowbar's somewhere dark backstage. He says he's seen lots of change in the business over the years, watching it go from pro wrestling to sports entertainment, and presumes some found Jarrett's impersonation of Dusty on Nitro "entertaining". He found it disgusting, and expected more from a 2nd generation wrestler. He says guys like Dusty paved the way for him, for Jeff, and the superstars of WCW, and there's no excuse for that. He says no one is stepping up so it's his duty to show guys like Dusty that he owes them something, and teach Jarrett a lesson in respect.

Buff and Kanyon are walking backstage.

Commercial

Ric is talking to Animal and Rick in the back, he's talking about monopolizing the sport, but says they need to keep Scott focused on Page and not let him get worked up over Morrus.

Cut to a sitdown interview with Shane Douglas. He talks about dreaming of breaking into the business watching it on TV with a friend, and how they were watching with innocent eyes. He talks about the backstabbing, manipulation, and politics that come with the business, how you need to learn that and walk through that hell to get to heaven.
He talks about idolizing Flair, about having a heart that gave up to no one like himself. He says Flair could play political chess like no one else. He says he approached Flair like anyone else who wants to be the best, asked him to teach him, and though Flair said he would, he just kept telling him what he wanted to hear. It started a seed of hatred.
He got an opportunity to go to ECW and became the man, was given free reign, and Flair was the first man he wanted to talk about. The hatred is what gave made him the Franchise. Now come 2000 in WCW, he came face to face with Flair, and didn't know what to expect, least of which was the ear to ear grin, handshake and "great to see you back that he got". He gives Ric credit for disarming him, at least so he thought.
He says the heart that used to make Flair great, before he sold out, now beats in Douglas' chest. He says Ric hasn't broken his spirit. He says he's at peace and one day, he'll walk up to Ric in the ring, look at the fear in his eyes, and says it will be painful. He says his revenge is 20 years in the making, and its' Ric's cross to bare. I wish his promos were more like this and less the generic cheap heat crap he usually does.

Security inform O'Haire he's banned from ringside for Palumbo's match tonight. He accuses Luger of being scared which prompts Buff to butt in. He says O'Haire's a big bad guy but is a rookie, Luger's made more money than him, and says he'll get his teeth knocked out if he doesn't watch it. Buff gets in a cheap shot and security hold them apart.

Commercial

Security are still trying to keep them apart.

Lex Luger vs Chuck Palumbo (WCW World Tag Team Champion)
Pre-Match: Luger gets a mic to say he's a big star, than says Palumbo tried to be and emulate him and be like him, only to realize there's only one Total Package. It's why he's a multimillionaire with a giant home, Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes, can't pick out what he drives. He's great at everything he does. He talks about Palumbo succeeding as tag team champion, and gets angry about Goldberg chants. He says Palumbo and O'Haire messed up snubbing their noses at Totally Buff and not joining the New WCW, and at Greed they'll take the titles and take them out like Goldberg.
Back and forth to start the match, Lex caught with a dropkick and a lariat, with Lex retreating to the corner and force separation from the ref. Luger pulls Palumbo out to the floor, then off the apron with a double ax to the back.. Palumbo sent into the guard rail, then across the floor into the rail again. Back in the ring, boots to the head and ribs by Luger, then some forearms into the back, followed by a back suplex for two.
Palumbo sent to the corner, gets Luger with an elbow, then some rights drops him to the mat. Palumbo sent off the ropes into a powerslam. Luger calls for the Rack, wastes a lot of time posing to the fans while Palumbo plays possum. Small package by Palumbo gets the win. (4:06)

Luger immediately attacks and gets Palumbo in the Rack until O'Haire comes out, sends Luger into the corner face first. Luger's sent off the ropes but buff has run out to pull him out of the ring for the save.

Commercial

O'Haire is backstage and says he'll take Buff or Luger, or even both, so he's going to think of the most sick and twisted things he can do to them before Nitro. He tells them to be very afraid.

Animal and Rick are looking for Morrus backstage and find the locker room. Morrus has preempted them and locks them in from the outside.

Hugh Morrus vs Scott Steiner (WCW World Heavyweight Champion)
Steiner with a cheap shot to start drops Morrus, then takes him to the corner for rights, boots and chops. Morrus sent across the ring, gets Steiner with an elbow and takes him to the corner for chops. Morrus mounts with rights but he's driven down with a powerbomb. Morrus sent off the ropes into a Steinerline, then an elbow and some pushups.
Out to the floor, Morrus sent into the guard rail, then back in the ring. Double sledge to the back and a backbreaker by Steiner gets two. Back to the floor, Steiner sent into the guard rail now, then dropped face first onto it, and into the side of the steps. Back in the ring once more, Morrus caught with a jawbreaker, then ducks a clothesline, hits a powerslam for two. Steiner sent off the ropes into a spin kick for two.
Morrus goes up top but he's caught with an electric chair. Steiner with the spinning belly to belly gets a near fall. Forearms to the back of Morrus, then Morrus avoids a German to hit one of his own. Morrus up top hits an elbow from one end to the other but only gets two. Morrus calls for the moonsault but we cut backstage to see Rick Steiner kick the door down, and he and Animal get out. Morrus up top misses the moonsault. Steiner sets Morrus on the top rope to hit a belly to belly suplex. Recliner gets the win. (7:22) Decent main event here.

Rick Steiner runs out and hands Scott hiis pipe. Rick mounts with rights. Scott gets a mic and calls Page out, or he threatens to break Morrus' leg. Page makes his way out with a mic, Page dares him to kill Morrus so he can kill Steiner. Steiner leaves the ring and they start to fight in the aisle until Rick intercepts from behind. Steiner misses a pipe shot and Page leaves through the crowd with Morrus.
