WWF Week of July 24, 2000
Last we left off on the WWF side of the things, we'd just finished the Fully Loaded PPV. To recap:
- Hardys & Lita beat T&A, with Lita pinning Trish after a moonsault
- Tazz beats Al Snow with a Tazzmission
- Perry Saturn wins the European Title from Eddie Guerrero after interference from Terri
- Acolytes beat Edge & Christian by DQ after a belt shot. E&C retain the Tag Titles.
- Val Venis retains the IC Title against Rikishi after interference from Tazz, and despite a splash from the top of the cage by Rikishi
- Undertaker beats Kurt Angle
- HHH beats Chris Jericho in a Last Man Standing Match after HHH puts them both through the announce table
- Chris Benoit beats The Rock by DQ after tricking the referee with help from Shane McMahon, and per stipulation, wins the WWF Title, until Commissioner Foley restarts the match for Rock to retain.
Live from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX for this edition of Raw, starting off the show with Commissioner Foley. He admits he was nervous before the PPV, because he wanted to make sure the first PPV under him was worth the price, that people got a hell of a show for laying down their hard earned money to see it. He believes the WWF came up big time the night before. He talks about Rikishi jumping off the cage, and Venis will be back in action some time in the future, even if they had to scrape him off the mat with a spatula.
Kurt has apparently demanded a rematch with Taker for tonight, and as a wrestling fan, Foley wants to see Kurt get his ass kicked like everyone else, so he's inclined to give them the rematch tonight. He puts over HHH and Jericho for beating the crap out of each other, then goes over his involvement in the WWF Title match. He says it made him want to return to the ring, even if the outcome was a bit controversial.
Speaking of which, out comes Benoit and Shane. Benoit says he was screwed plain and simple and calls Foley a fraud. Shane doesn't blame him for being mad, that Benoit should have the title around his waist right now. He says there's constant in the WWF, that the referee's decision is final, it's been like that since his great-grandfather ran things and even when Austin briefly had control. We get a replay of what happened and Shane says Foley has no business making that decision.
Foley, despite Shane making a valid case, says things change, and could picture Shane pretending to be Vanilla Ice 12 years ago, and that CD is likely in the garbage somewhere in Hackensack, NJ, because things change. He imagines Benoit probably smiled or laughed, but that's obviously changed too, and the only thing that hasn't changed is Vince's hairstyle, which will remain after they're all long gone. Benoit says he proved to the world he's the greatest technical world in WWF history, and the WWF Champion. He says it was a blatant abuse of power, he beat Rock, and tonight he demands a rematch tonight, and prove to the world he's WWF Champion. Foley says he proved a lot of things, and there will be a rematch in the future, but as for tonight, he's going to take it under advisement. Benoit says it's not good enough.
Out comes Stephanie now. She after winning a brutal and grueling match against Jericho, her husband proved again that he is The Game, and is that damn good. She says that he proved to her how good he really is later that night. As far as tonight though, she's here to support Shane and the rules her family have instituted since WWF's inception. She demands Foley book Benoit his rematch for tonight.
Foley confesses that last year, while he was recovering from a head injury, he found Steph moderately attractive, but after her actions of the last few weeks, he finds himself inclined to agree with Jericho's assessment, which results in a slap to the face before he can even get it out. Foley says he could fire her for that, but it's not good enough. He says she and Shane always want to get involved in matches, so they will get involved in a match tonight. He says he's booking the first "Brother-Sister Tag Match" for the first time in wrestling history, pitting them against two opponents of his choosing. He also threatens to fire them, as well as Benoit or HHH, if either of them get involved.
Rock arrives at the building.

WWF Hardcore Championship: Road Dogg vs Steve Blackman (c)
X-Pac on commentary.
Pre-Match: Dogg says he's going to gobble Blackman up like Pac-Man and hopes he doesn't mind being on his back, and that he came to play hardcore.
Forearm by Dogg to start the match, then sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, following up with his rights, dropped with a chain to the head. Blackman mounts with rights before pulling out a pair of trash can lids. Dogg sent off the ropes, hit in the ribs with a lid, then the back, then a spinning lid shot to the back of the head. Running bulldog onto the lid gets two. Blackman pulls out a trash can and wedges it in the corner, only to be sent toward it, slides to avoid it, only to bounce face first off it with a drop toe hold, then a dropkick sends him back into it.
Dogg mocks him with a crane pose before taking it to the floor, lid to the head of Blackman, then an atomic drop onto the ring steps and a kick to the back. Trash can to the ribs of Blackman sends him to the floor. Dogg pulls out a stick of some kind as they return to the ring, Blackman has a pair of his own sticks. Blackman blocks a shot from Dogg with the sticks, then nails him in the ribs with one. Another block by Blackman opens him up for a kick and a stick to the back. Blackman rolls under another shot and batters him with more stick shots, followed by a stick-assisted back suplex for two.
Blackman pulls out a chair, sends Dogg off the ropes, blocks a clothesline and hits a DDT on the chair for two. Dogg misses a chair shot and gets it in the face from a pump kick, and Blackman retains. (5:29) A simple and fun match.
X-Pac says he'll challenge Blackman on Smackdown and show Road Dogg how it's done.
Steph is getting ready and HHH walks in. She catches him up to speed, he says he's not feeling good after last night. Steph also has a bunch of flowers and he's paranoid, so he throws them all away. They were supposed to be flowers for him from her.

WWF Slam of the Week is Rikishi's splash off the cage at the PPV.
Steph and Shane come out for their match. Lita comes out and Shane gets a mic. He says an animal is ferocious when cornered and will unleash Steph all over Lita. He's not going to let anything happen to her, no matter who their opponent is, he's proud to stand in the ring with her.
Shane & Stephanie McMahon (WWF Women's Champion) vs Lita & Big Show
Pre-Match: You'll remember we last saw Big Show at Judgement Day back in May, where Shane beat him after smashing a cinder block over his knee with help from T&A. He also chases Shane to the back, leaving Steph and Lita alone in the ring.
Forearm by Lita takes Steph down, followed by a hairmare across the ring. Steph tries to retreat but she gets hairmared again. Lita with a suplex, then Lita goes up top. Trish is here to crotch Lita on the top rope. Trish pulls out a strap as Steph tears off Lita's top, Trish whipping away and Steph with kicks to the ribs. I don't know what happens here, ref never once calls for a DQ, there's no bell to end the match, and Steph and Trish just leave. I guess this is a no contest? (1:43)
Commercial
Big Show is looking for Shane backstage, calls him a billion-dollar butt plug.
Godfather vs Bull Buchanan (w/ Steven Richards)
IF Godfather wins, Richards has to stop censoring him. If Bull wins, Godfather has to give up pimping forever.
Pre-Match: Steven says they're happy to say after tonight, a program once littered with indecency will be a step closer to becoming acceptable. He tells Godfather to say goodbye to pimping. Bull gets whipped into the steps, then face first off them before taking it to the ring.
Bull sent to the corner for boots and rights, the ref eventually separating them. Godfather sent off the ropes into a big boot, then he's backdropped over the ropes. Bull skins the cat, but Godfather uses his tie to choke him over the ropes. Godfather has his throat snapped over the top rope, then Bull comes off the ropes with a pair of elbows. Bull with a suplex gets two.
Shots in the corner from Bull drops Godfather for more stomps and some choking, then he's choked over the middle rope. Godfather sent off the ropes, catches Bull with a boot and some rights, then off the ropes misses a crossbody. Godfather sent off the ropes into a clothesline for two. Godfather dropped throat first on the top rope and we get a "Save the Hos" chant as Godfather goes face first off the steps. Back in the ring, Bull sent to the corner, gets Godfather with an elbow, then h's sent off the ropes into a powerslam for two.
Godfather sent to the corner for a running clothesline, then back across but misses a splash, then Godfather with some clotheslines. Steven at ringside superkicks one of the hos while Godfather hits one of his own on Bull. Bull gets a back body drop, then sent to the corner for the Ho Train, but while the ref is checking on the hos, Godfather runs face first into a chair held up by Richards. Top rope leg drop gets Bull the win. (4:40) An OK match.
Shane is hiding in the parking lot and closely followed by Big Show. Shane just narrowly escapes.
Kurt is walking backstage.

Kurt Angle (2000 King of the Ring) vs The Undertaker
Pre-Match: Foley has made Trish vs Lita in a Strap Match for later, we're told by JR. Kurt is sure we're wondering why he asked for a rematch with Taker, and it's because Taker didn't beat him at the PPV. He says Taker beat a man living in fear, and he's sure the Austin people know what that's like, fear of whether they'll get their welfare cheques, whether or not the kid is theirs, or their brother's, or their neighbors, mailman's, etc. The point is the Undertaker beat a man in fear for his life, but he's still walking and talking. He says he doesn't want to wait and wants Taker now.
Kurt immediately retreats to the floor and Taker immediately follows. Kurt with a cheap shot only to be dropped with a right. Angle back to retreating lures Taker back in, stomping and getting in some rights. Kurt sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, but immediately driven down with a chokeslam. Shane appears from the crowd and Big Show's right behind. Shane enters the ring and he's dropped with a right. Taker goes for a chokeslam on Shane, but he gives Shane to show who enters the ring. Taker turns his back and Show clotheslines Taker down, and a triple team ensues. Show is targeting an injured knee and the referee is tossed out of the ring. Referees rush in to try and break it up but they're scared out. Taker caps it off with a chokeslam on Taker and they finally leave. Another match where they never called for a DQ, there was no bell to end the match, so I guess it's another no contest? (3:13)
Stretcher is brought out for Taker but refuses help, even though he can barely stand let alone walk.
Commercial
Replays of what just happened.
Cole catches up with Taker in the back. Taker says payback will be a bitch, but he's immediately attacked again by Big Show, Shane and Kurt, who attack him with some conveniently placed trash cans. Big Show slams a giant pipe across the knee of Taker, and Shane smashes an also conveniently placed cinder block on his knee.
Jericho comes out to the ring now, ribs and arm taped up after his match with HHH. He says he experienced the most brutal match in his life at the PPV, but also calls it the greatest match of his career. It pains to say that HHH took him to the limit, both physically and mentally, he exposed a side neither he or the Jerichoholics have ever seen. He says there's no doubt HHH beat the hell out of him, but there's also no doubt he beat the living hell out of HHH, he spilled his blood, even tasted it, and he liked it. He says even though HHH was the Last Man Standing by a second, if he goes back and rewatches the match, he may not be the game he thought he was. and that he was the hunter. Having said that, after the brutal beatings and the hell they put each other through, he's not through with HHH yet. He says even though he could barely get out of bed, and it feels like there's a knife stabbing him in the side, he wants more, and doesn't care what kind of match, or how he wants it, he wants HHH tonight.
HHH appears on the Titan Tron and says Jericho proved that he's a lot tougher than HHH gave him credit for, that he has what it takes, has the guts, the heart, the desire, but the biggest thing he proved is that he's nowhere near in HHH's league. He says he beat Jericho within an inch of his life, proved that he's everything he says he is, proved to Jericho and the world that he is The Game, and like he always says, that he's that damn good. As far as tonight goes, he's not down for another match, he did all he needed to at the PPV, there's nothing to prove to him or the Jerichoholics, he's proved that he's the better man. He suggests Jericho head to the back, grab his bags, save himself from an ass kicking, go to his hotel and lick his wounds, and accept what everyone else learns to accept, that he is better than Jericho.
Jericho says that since he won't come out, he's going to have to go to the back and make a bigger mess of his face than he's making of his marriage. HHH goads him into coming to find him. Jericho finds HHH and tackles him in the locker room, they start going at it until referees rush in to bring it up
Shane, Show, Angle and Benoit celebrate as Shane and Show leave the arena. Benoit apparently is getting his rematch tonight and Shane tells Kurt to have his back.

Rikishi's out with taped ribs and goes after Tazz, sending him to the corner, slamming into him and following with a Samoan drop.
Foley's talking with Edge and Christian somewhere backstage, his makeshift office for the night. Foley says he's heard Bradshaw has an icepack for his hand after Edge hit it with his jaw, and Farooq's nursing a sore toe after it connected with Christian's ass. Edge points out they're still champions and that DQs rule. Foley doesn't know whether to put them against the Hardys or the Dudleys tonight, so he's decided on a three-way for the titles, so they don't even have to be pinned to lose the titles. Foley declares his rulings rule and send them off.
Kane arrives to tear apart Foley's office and demands a match with Shane, Big Show and Angle tonight. Foley says Shane and Show have already left, but promises to come up with something that Kane will like. Kane smashes a monitor on his way out.
Commercial
Angle's on his way out and Foley catches up with him. Foley says he caught what he, Shane and Show did to Taker earlier, and that leaves him with a problem. He says Angle came to him wanting a wrestling match and didn't see Angle wrestle, and so Kane wants his hands on Kane, and seeing Benoit wants Rock, he makes a tag match to kill two birds with one stone.

Christian throws Matt out, Edge rolls over to cover D-Von to retain. (4:13) Too short but it was great.
Bubba's pissed off.
Trish is complaining about being put in a Strap Match to the hairdresser. She says it's harassment and says Foley's a sexist pig who gets his jollies off watching women strap each other. She threatens to sue him for sexual harassment if this continues.
Commercial
Angle's complaining to Benoit in the locker room. Benoit assures him everything will be fine, says he'll take care of Rock, and Kurt just has to worry about Kane. Kurt isn't in the right mind so he seems OK with that at first before following Benoit out to complain more.
Coach is with Rock for comments on his tag match tonight. Rock says Benoit gave him all he had and he gave it back, but at the end of the night, after his blood and sweat, he earned the right and paid the price to call himself WWF Champion. He says there was no controversy, Benoit didn't earn the right or the title by hitting the ref with a chair, by whining and bitching and complaining, he does it by Rock Bottom in the middle of the ring for the 1-2-3.

Rock is talking to Foley in the back.
Commercial
The WWF Burn of the Week is Rikishi's splash off the cage at the PPV.
Foley comes out. Foley says he likes to smile a lot, and thinks he has a nice one, but tonight he doesn't feel like smiling, he's not all that happy. He says he's not happy with Shane, Big Show, or the events that happened on Raw, and especially not with being made a fool out of. He says Big Show for the last two weeks called him and said he was ready to come back, that his knee feels good, he wants back in and wants Shane, so he gave Show Shane, and they duped everyone.
Another person who's not very happy is Rock, who told him he wants Benoit, Show, Angle and Shane, in any combination. Instead, Foley's going to make it an even playing field, a one-on-one match tonight. He makes Rock vs Kurt Angle for later, as well as a mixed tag pitting HHH & Trish vs Lita & Jericho. He admits he's feeling better and announces Edge, Christian & Big Show vs the Dudleys & Kane. And because he's feeling good and this is the birthplace of Dude Love, he's exercising his commissionary powers to make it a Tables Match.
Speak of the devil, out comes Big Show and Shane. Shane says he turned the tables on Foley on Raw, and all Foley can do is wish because Shane will always be a few steps ahead of the commish. He says Monday was Foley's first lesson in McMahon master manipulation, before calling Big Show the star of the show. Show says that when he was sent to the hospital and went through rehab, he had one thought, to put his big meaty hands around Shane's neck and snap it, but as time passed, he looked in the mirror, and saw he himself was the one responsible for the injury. He says he had a great time making everyone laugh, but he was a joke, he was a damn failure. He says he was blind, he couldn't see who was really trying to help him, it was Shane, Angle, trying to keep him from behind a moron. He says ever since he came to WWF, he's been trying to figure out who he is and what he's about, and that is the biggest, nastiest bastard to step foot in WWF and he's damn proud of it.
HHH and Steph are walking backstage, and his arm is taped up tonight for some reason. She begs him to put some ice on it and he asks her to give it a rest. They enter their room to find some yellow roses and she says she doesn't know about them, which sets HHH off again. It's all a play though because they turn out to be from him.

Richards understand that the people don't understand they have their best interest in mind, but after their victory over indecency on Raw, they've received thousands of letters in support of their actions. Whether we like it or not, he says right will always prevail over wrong. For example, he scantily clad women are wrong, lusting after them is wrong, and pimping isn't easy, it's history, as are the scantily clad women. He says a battle was won, they fought the good fight for our own good, we don't know any better, and they won. They've proven their efforts aren't in vain, as he introduces their newest member, The Goodfather.
Goodfather says Steven was right, he's spending too much time trying to ruin what's good in the WWF and the people cheer for it. He thought he was fighting for our rights, but he was just fighting for filth, parading women around as sex objects, and it's not right. He says he tried to play off our lust, pimping just for the cheer, when he should have been trying to set a better example. He says love is not for sale, it's a gift, it's a privilege and not a commodity, and apologizes for that. Never again will he contribute to the moral demise of what their country stands for, his eyes were shut so tight he couldn't see the trash in front of them, he couldn't see that it was wrong, that the great people can't see, that Steven is right. He says WWF will be better off without pimps, hos, and selective censoring.
Trish finds Foley in his office for tonight, which appears to be the janitor's office. She doesn't think there's a need for a match since Trips has left the building, she says her body is aching from Raw. She's clearly trying to get a lawsuit out of him and Foley's not playing along, and he was going to give her the night off, and instead he's pairing her up with Benoit. He tells her to either go out and wrestle her butt off or he'll sue her for sexual harassment.

Replay of Jericho beating Benoit moments ago.
Coach is with Kurt backstage. Coach says Rock is likely pissed off after Kurt nailed him with a chair on Raw which Kurt mocks and takes offense to, considering he was chased down by a psycho on a bike and no one batted an eye. He says Foley thinks this is a punishment, but is actually doing him a favor, Kurt can't wait to face Rock, and it's only fitting they do it in Texas. He says Rock and Texas have a lot in common: they both think they're better than everyone else as if they're special. He tells Rock to come back down to Earth, show some guts and put the title on the line, because he's about to get beat by the real People's Champion.
Kevin Kelly is with Jericho elsewhere. Jericho says we've learned a lot about Trips tonight, like how he's not that damn good according to his wife, and that if you're going to stick a girl like Trish with a couple of pointers, maybe wait until your wife's left the building first. As far as Benoit goes, since he just beat him, that now makes Benoit the second-greatest technical wrestler in the WWF. Then again, since Rock beat him at the PPV, that might make him the third-best, but if you add Lita to the equation, it makes him the fourth.
Benoit nails him from behind with Shane in tow, Jericho's nailed in the head with a case, then whipped into a garage door. Jericho is put beneatht he door which is open, leaving him in position to drop the door on Jericho's ribs. Benoit grabs a chair nearby to nail him in the head for good measure, Jericho spitting up blood.
