Week of August 28, 2000
This week's Raw starts with a cold open, where Michael Cole has been called to Commissioner Foley's office, which this week is a penalty box in the back. Foley calls the PPV the greatest Summerslam of all time, and has put together a card that includes four big title matches:
- Acolytes & Jericho take on Benoit & T&A
- Lita puts the Women's Title on the line against a currently unknown opponent
- Val Venis will attempt to win back his IC Title against Chyna
- Tazz will challenge Blackman for the Hardcore Championship
- Rock defends the WWF Championship against Kane
HHH us pacing in the parking lot waiting for Steph's arrival, apparently he hasn't seen her in the last 24 hours.
Raw is live from the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina, and right into a match.
Chris Jericho & The Acolytes vs Chris Benoit & T&A (w/ Trish Stratus)
Pre-Match: Last night at Summerslam, Benoit and Jericho got one fall a piece with their respective submissions, but Benoit won the second fall using the ropes to wi
n the match.
Jericho wastes no time and fights with Benoit on the ramp as Benoit comes out. The two teams fight it out in the ring, Jericho taking Benoit into the ring to start the match legally. Jericho with chops in the corner, then some boots before getting sent across the ring Jericho with an elbow and a dropkick from the middle rope, then mounts with rights. Benoit sent off the ropes into a boot and a double-underhook backbreaker. Clothesline by Jericho, then a cheap shot by Test and one by Benoit.
Test tags in but runs into a drop toe hold and in tags Farooq, attacking Test in the corner. Test sent across the ring, gets a boot up and hits a clothesline. Test sent off the ropes into a powerslam for two. Test into the boot of Bradshaw who tag in, Test sent off the ropes into a double spinebuster. Russian leg sweep by Bradshaw gets two. Test sent off the ropes and hits a spinning neckbreaker. Test sent off the ropes into a back elbow, then knocks Albert off the apron. Test sent to the corner for a running clothesline, only for to be splashed by Albert. Bradshaw whipped into a big boot from Test.
Scoop slam by Albert, then off the ropes with a splash for two. Benoit back in with vicious rights, taking Bradshaw to the corner for boots. Albert back in, Bradshaw sent off the ropes and hits a shoulder block. Farooq gets the tag, but Jericho comes in, so does Farooq and Test now who go at it. Jericho sent off the ropes and hits the bulldog, then knocks Benoit from the apron. Jericho sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, tries a crossbody but gets caught with a TKO for a near fall for Albert. Trish distracts the ref, Albert gets Jericho in a gorilla press, but Bradshaw saves with a big boot. Lionsault gets the win. (5:24) Good opener.
Hunter is still pacing but up walks X-Pac who's worried Steph is with Kurt. He promises to hurt Kurt if he shows up. X-Pac says Steph was in good hands last he saw her, meaning Kurt.
Commercial
Now Hunter is talking with Road Dogg. He understands his plight being married himself but says things like this work themselves out and feels that Steph is safe. All of a sudden Angle's music hits, even though he should be in the hospital given he got a concussion at Summerslam and Hunter immediately leaves the parking lot.
To the arena and sure enough Angle is here. I was wrong, apparently he was released from the hospital that morning. He brings everyone up to speed on what happened to him at Sumemrslam and says he doesn't remember some things because of it. He says it could have been the greatest night of his life, his career, one he could tell his grandkids about, but after what Hunter did to him his mind drew a blank. His grandchildren will now have to make due with stories of his medals and other wrestling achievements, not Summerslam 2000. He does know that he valiantly came out and competed for the title, that Hunter, a very scared man, struck his wife and got his ass kicked by Rock. What he's been told is that he came back to help Steph, take him from more brutality and seek medical attention at the local medical facility. He says Hunter's always been a shady character in his book, that what he did to Steph is beyond deplorable and borderline criminal. He says that may be normal in backwoods states like North Carolina it's not acceptable to him. He says Hunter always made a lousy WWF Champion, and after last night it's clear to him he makes a lousier husband, and that is true.
Here comes Hunter now. He takes pride in giving Kurt a concussion, says he beat Kurt senseless, but won't do it tonight at least not yet. He's only out here to know where Steph is, and if Kurt doesn't tell him, what he does to him will definitely be criminal. Kurt questions if he's implying a kidnapping, but opts to leave the criminal activity to Hunter since he did punch his wife. He repeats he has no idea what happened last night and certainly has no idea where she is.
Hunter says Kurt comes out every week and plays the ignorant jackass, and thinks he does a great job, he's the best one they have, but he's not buying it. He says he knows Kurt better, he's not that dumb, and takes pride in being called a shady character. Hunter demands again that Angle tell him before he beats his ass. Angle brags about being an Olympic gold medalist and insists that he tells the truth when he says something. He suggests that Steph hasn't tried to contact him is she's scared of her husband, because she doesn't trust him, or perhaps when he punched her he knocked some sense into her and now sees him for the bastard he is.
Kurt is immediately shoved out to the floor and the referees immediately rush out. Angle wants to fight but the referees keep them separated.
Chyna and Eddie are walking backstage. She says she kind of feels sorry for Hunter, and Eddie says the guy doesn't know how to treat a lady, and she should be more worried about the IC Title. They leave.
Commercial
The WWF Burn of the Week is Chyna winning the IC Title by pinning Trish at Summerslam.
WWF Intercontinental Championship: Chyna (c) (w/ Eddie Guerrero) vs Val Venis
Val with cheap shots to begin, followed by a short-arm clothesline before tossing Chyna to the floor. Another cheap shot before returning to the ring, and Trish comes out. Chyna face first in the corner, then sent off the ropes into a back elbow for two. Scoop slam by Val for two. Chyna choked over the middle rope, then a stalling suplex by Val for two. Chyna sent to the corner, nails Val with an elbow only to be thrown to the mat. Val off the ropes runs into a clothesline, Chyna following with a handspring elbow and a DDT gets two.
Chyna goes for a powerbomb but gets catapulted into the corner, then gets booted down and choked with Val's boot. Eddie distracts the ref, Chyna slaps and low blows Val, some forearms and nut claw before clotheslining Val to the floor. Eddie tries to attack but gets dropped on the barricade, before Chyna tosses her back in. Chyna sent off the ropes into a spinebuster. Val goes up top, Trish comes down and it distracts Val. Val sends her back up the ramp. Ref is checking on Chyna so Eddie attacks. Val gets tossed back in, argues with Eddie, Chyna rolls him up to retain. (5:21) It was OK.
Val gets pissed and goes after Trish.
Angle is in the locker room and in comes Cole, who doesn't believe that Kurt remembers nothing about the night before. Kurt insists on it and reminds him that he had to be told about carrying Steph to the back. He is starting to remember a little, being in a hotel lobby after the hospital, he wasn't alone, Steph was there. He even remembers her room number... no wait that was his room... no it was her room. He leaves.

Steven Richards (w/ Right to Censor) vs Rikishi (w/ Too Cool, Victoria & Mandy)
Pre-Match: RTC got the win last night after Richards interrupted the Worm with a Stevie Kick for the win, and for some reason he asked for this match tonight. Steven has a mic and says a victory was won for morality and decency, they fought the good fight for everyone, yet the fans continue to boo. He says the Constitution is archaic, clearly the forefathers didn't intend for freedom of expression to be taken to such perverse lengths. He offers a lesson morality, saying Rikishi's fat, disgusting rear end hanging out of a thong is unacceptable, as is violence and scantily-clad women, and the fact Rikishi brought said women back makes this personal. He's also disappointed that these people in the Bible Belt don't care, and someone has to fight for their children, fight the good fight and make the world a better place, and someone must be there to stop people like Rikishi, teach him the words "appropriate behavior." He will sacrifice his well being to censor material they find indecent and inappropriate because none of these people will, and if they don't know what's good for them and their children, RTC do.
RTC and Too Cool immediately fight in and then out of the ring. Steven tries a sneak attack but eats a superkick, then gets squashed in the corner setting him up for the Stinkface, but Bull and Godfather interrupt, only to get dropped with a double clothesline. Kish triews again but Bull pulls Richards out of the ring and RTC retreat. Well this match never even got started, there was no bell so that's it.
Rikishi, Too Cool and the ladies dance.
Hunter is backstage and in walks Chyna now to check on him. She says things'll likely work out and that trust is important in a relationship, using her and Eddie as an example. She tells him to give Steph a chance. Hunter thanks and hugs her and in walks Eddie who gets pissed and shoves Hunter. Chyna tries to talk some sense into her as they leave to Hunter's bewilderment.

Replay of what just happened.
Edge and Christian, still the Tag Champs, are walking gingerly to the ring after the TLC Match last night. Christian says they aren't able to do a five-second pose tonight after what they went through. Edge says that though they may not see eye to eye with the Dudleyz or Hardyz, the two have more respect for them than they can imagine. He says while the Dudleyz aren't there, they know the Hardyz are, and asks them to come out to shake hands.
So out come dwarf Hardyz with stepladders. Christian says that though the match was great it had nothing to do with the Hardyz or the Dudleyz, says they could've been against the Bushwackers, or Techno Team 2000, it was great because they were in it. This prompts dwarf Dudleyz to come out with a kids table. Edge claims they were going to shake their opponents' hands but they decided to mock their inferior opponents instead. Dward Bubba gives a "Wassup" and dwarf D-Von gives us a "Testify" before doing his little dance.
They don't have footage from the PPV, so they'll reenact it instead. So the dwarves get on the ladders and table so the champs can push them off. As promised last week they're here to give us a 37-second pose, they even have a timer up on the Titantron. Their pose consists of them holding up the titles, the dwarves trying to grab them, and then bowing down to the champs.
Finally the actual Hardyz come out. Matt hits a Twist of Fate on Edge, Matt throws the kids table at Christian and a leg breaks off. Jeff uses a stepladder to hit Poetry in Motion on Christian. Hardyz leave the ring and pull out two full-size ladders and sandwich Christian between them. Matt and Jeff climb the ladders but Christian makes a quick save and they retreat to the back.
Eddie is punching and headbutting the wall in the locker room and in walks Angle to stir the pot a little, and suggest he challenge Hunter. Eddie agrees and leaves.

WWF Hardcore Championship: Steve Blackman (c) vs Tazz
Pre-Match: Blackman retained after knocking Shane 50-feet from the side of the Titantron, then proceeded to fly off on top of Shane himself. Blackman slides in a few trash cans, lids, and for some reason a leather strap before Tazz comes out. Tazz had a glass jar or pitcher smashed over his head by JR allowing King to beat him at Summerslam. Tazz comes out with a mic and says JR and King had a hell of a laugh at the PPV, saying they almost blinded him. He says the mood is definitely gonna change tonight, promising to make the two of them and Blackman just more victims. He calls himself a one-man crime spree and says he's thug life born, bred, and dead when the time is right.
Blackman immediately tries to hit him with a trash lid and misses, caught with a back suplex. Tazz loses focus immediately and talks smack at commentary, prompting Blackman to toss a trash can to him and kick it back in his face, sending him over the guard rail. Blackman eventually takes it back to the ring, and I guess in the time Tazz went to commentary he also wedged a trash can in the corner. Tazz sent off the ropes, gets a lid to the knees and the back, then a back shot to the back of the head. Tazz dropkicked into the corner, then a spin kick and rapid shots to the body and head. Blackman sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, misses a spin kick and gets tripped up for boots from Tazz.
Tazz gets the strap and begins whipping Blackman before tossing him back to the floor. Lid to the head, then tosses him back in the ring, then he nails King in the head with the lid. Tazz tries to get JR but it leads to Tazz and King fighting. JR nails Tazz in the back with a lid, Blackman comes off the apron with a flying knee on Tazz to retain. (2:38)
King throws a chair at Tazz but takes out a referee by accident as they rush to take Tazz away. JR keeps the lid he used as a souvenir.
Back to Hunter and now Just Joe is here, Hunter is not in the mood and immediately kicks him out. Now Eddie storms in with a referee trying to calm him down. Eddie's got a match with him tonight after going to Foley.

Replay of what just happened.
The Lugz Boot of the Week is Lita pushing the tag champs off the ladder at Summreslam.
WWF Women's Championship: Lita (c) vs Jacqueline
Cheap shot by Jackie to start, Lita sent off the ropes, caught with a tilt-a-whirl headscissor, drop toe hold and a hurricanrana for two. Jackie sent to the corner for a clothesline, Lita following a snapmare and a dropkick to the back for two. Jackie sent to the corner, delivers a side kick, goes up top but gets crotched. Lita tries a superplex but gets dropped on the mat.
Kick to the ribs by Jackie, then some chops in the corner and some kicks to the ribs. Jackie sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, floats over into a DDT for two. Lita sent off the ropes, I think they're supposed to do a back drop but Lita doesn't flip so Jackie turns it into a flapjack for two. Jackie back up top with a crossbody for two.
Lita counters a scoop slam with an inverted DDT, then connects with some clotheslines. Twist of Fate connects, then the moonsault to retain. (3:32)
Tag champs are back out. JR mentioned on commentary she got speared on the floor by Edge at Summerslam and she's been selling her ribs. Jackie pulled her back in the ring by the hair and now the Hardyz return, bowling over a cameraman to get to the champs, only to be laid out and Lita eats a spear from Edge in the ring. Triple teaming ensues with Jackie until the Hardyz run them off.
Cole is with Kane backstage, who has his mask on despite the fact Taker removed it during their match the night before. Cole asks how he's going to concentrate on Rock given everything going on with Taker. Kane says Taker tried to show the world what he is, what he tried to hide his whole life, what the people wouldn't accept, which is the fact that he's always been a monster. Since the world won't accept him, he says he won't accept them, and since the world is afraid of him he's going to give them something to be scared of. The one thing he'd enjoy more than beating Taker to a bloody pulp is beat the People's Champion, so that the monster will represent the people.
Chyna is trying to talk sense into Eddie as they walk backstage. Eddie says he has to take care of this man to man and asks her to stay in theback.
Triple H vs Eddie Guerrero
Eddie gets the first shots in, then sent off the ropes, slips through the legs and delivers a tilt-a-whirl headscissor, followed by a clothesline. Mounted rights in the corner until Eddie's shoved all the way across the ring, ducks a clothesline and back on the attack. European uppercuts by Eddie, then he's sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline but runs into a high knee.
Eddie face first in the corner before getting stomped and choked on the mat. Eddie sent off the ropes into a back elbow. Suplex by Hunter followed by a knee drop out of the corner for two. Eddie tries to fight back only to be sent off the ropes, popped up and delivers a hurricanrana. Eddie sent to the corner, gets Hunter with an elbow, then a tornado DDT. Eddiie comes off the top and misses a senton, then popped up and dropped face first on the buckle. Hunter tries, Angle runs in and nails him with a chair for the DQ. (3:32)
He also nails Eddie in the head with a chair. Chyna runs out with a chair of his own and Angle retreats.
Commercial
Replay of what just happened, we're told Angle left the building.
Al Snow & The Kat vs Perry Saturn (WWF European Champion) & Terri
Terri and Kat start with the usual catfight spot until Terri kicks her off, then sort of hits a fisherman's suplex. Terri tries to drop her ass on Kat's face and misses. Then Kat goes to do the same only to be shoved away by Saturn. Al and Saturn tag in, Saturn sent off the ropes into a clothesline. Al counters an Irish whip with a pumphandle suplex, then takes Saturn to the corner for body shots. Saturn sent across the ring, gets the boots up twice and hits a double-underhook suplex, followed by a running clothesline.
Al sent off the ropes, avoids a back drop but gets caught in an armbar until he gets the ropes. Al counters another Irish whip with a takedown, dropping him with some kicks to the knees for two. Al sent toward the corner, avoids it with a slide but runs into a superkick. Saturn goes up top but gets crotched, Al following with a superplex. All of a sudden we get Naked Mideon, then Al hits Saturn with a sitout Uranagi, then Al goes up top, hits the moonsault and covers but Terri breaks it up. Terri is on Al gets shoved into the corner knocking Kat over who's hanging over the ropes which I guess counts for a tag, Rings of Saturn applied for the win. (4:26) Al and Perry made it an OK match.
Kevin Kelly is waiting outside Rock's locker room.
Commercial
Cut to footage from earlier of Dudleyz at WWF New York. They say they'd have put the tag champs through a table if they were in Greensboro and everyone knows it, then makes a tiny dick joke.
Kevin Kelly is with Rock backstage. Rock asks if Kelly is prepared to tickle the anus, both physically and mentally, of a monkey. Kelly tries to ask him something and Rock interrupts asking why he asks stupid questions and why he's an ugly hermaphrodite, and says no one knows the answer. Everyone knows though that he went through a war, to hell and back and is still the WWF Champion. Tonight though he has to face 300lbs of monster, and says he's the only man that represents the people and is going whoop Kane's ass all over Greensboro.
WWF Championship: Kane vs The Rock (c)
Rock starts with a series of rights before he's sent off the ropes into a big boot. Kane with rights of his own, then Rock counters an Irish whip with a Russian leg sweep for two. Kane with more rights in the corner, then Rock with some of his own only to walk into a running powerslam. Kane gets some more shots in before delivering a suplex for two.
Rock starts a comeback only to run into a sidewalk slam. Kane goes up top and nails a flying clothesline for two. Rock tries another comeback but gets cut off, then counters an Irish whip with a Samoan drop. Kane's back up first and Rock starts another comeback, then sent off the ropes to hit a flying clothesline of his own, followed by a DDT for two. Rock and Kane trade Irish whip counters until Rock gets sent into the ref in the corner.
Rock counters Kane with a spinebuster and hits the People's Elbow, covers but the referee is out. Kane immediately chokeslams Rock as her checks on the ref but it's a near fall. Rock counters an Irish whip with a Rock Bottom but it's a near fall. Kane clotheslined out to the floor, then Rock face first off the announce table and steps. Kane sends Rock into the crowd to fight.
Now Taker is here all of a sudden and Kane leaves Rock in the crowd. Answering my earlier question apparently Kane has multiple masks because Taker is carrying the one he stole at Summerslam. Kane and Taker go at it in the ring, Taker sent off the ropes and gets Kane with the chokeslam. Ref apparently was looking after Rock and missed all of this as they both return to the ring, Rock covers but it's still not enough. A second Rock Bottom gets the win. (8:09) This was a solid match and watching Kane kick out of a Rock Bottom so casually is just wild to see.
Taker poses at the top of the ramp to end the show.
Recap of the Helmsley-Angle love triangle between Summerslam and Raw, reminded that we still have no idea where's Steph's gone to.
Broadcasting from the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, LA for this edition of Smackdown. On tap, Taker and Benoit face off for a shot at the WWF Title, with no countouts or disqualifications.
Steph has reemerged to start the show. She says Hunter is on his way so we don't need to ask about his whereabouts. She also thanks everyone for their concern of her whereabouts, but doesn't appreciate all the rumors she's heard. She states for the record and for the sake of her reputation she spent the night by Shane's bedside, even making a point to say "it's true." She says her and Hunter are in wedded bliss.
Her next thought is interrupted by Kurt. He wants her to know how much he admires her, like how people admire him for his medals. He calls her beautiful and delicate, and admires the brave face she's putting on after her husband struck her. Kurt shows the footage of Hunter hitting her, by accident to prove his point. She says the two of them talked about it, and she points out it was obviously an accident. He wants to believe that, but then shows the footage of Hunter and Chyna hugging on Raw, which does seem to upset her for some reason.
Well now this prompts Chyna to come out. She calls Kurt an idiot and says he's manipulating her, insisting she and Hunter did nothing immoral. Kurt doubts whether Chyna is her real name, then says he hit Hunter with a chair to take a stand for Steph. He blames his concussion and seeing double for hitting Eddie with a chair and points out how Chyna was busy tending to Hunter after the attack, accompanied by footage that conveniently leaves out how Chyna also checked on Eddie. Steph buys it and Chyna starts to head to the ring threatening to shove Kurt's medals down his throat.
Kurt takes another shot at Hunter and says he doesn't strike women unless in self-defense and threatens to kick her ass. There's a referee here now for some reason. Steph gets between them and goes off on Chyna off-mic, and Kurt takes forever to hit Chyna with an Angle Slam. Now Eddie's here to attack Kurt and send him off, and the ref holds Eddie back before he can go after him. I'm so confused, who is supposed to be the heels and babyfaces in this love triangle?
Commercial
Replay of what happened.
Hunter's arrived.
Kurt and Steph are talking and Steph is defending Kurt for his actions and in walks Hunter. He tries to kill Angle, Angle scurries out the door and Steph slaps Hunter. He gets pissed, she brings up Chyna on Raw and asks why he didn't tell her. He says he meant nothing and isn't important, calling this ridiculous. He kicks something over and leaves to cool off. Are we just forgetting the fact that she was apparently missing for almost a week?
Road Dogg comes out because he has a problem with Right to Censor, ranting about how America is about Freedom or whatever and calls out RTC. Bull and Steven come out. Bull wants everyone to come together, close their eyes, think about their children, their little faces, then open their eyes and look at Road Dogg. He says Roadie promotes vulgarity, violence and filth, and as sure as he stands there he will censor Roadie's actions because he doesn't want his babies watching him. So is Road Dogg just a babyface now?
Road Dogg vs Bull Buchanan (w/ Steven Richards)
Road Dogg sent off the ropes into a clothesline, then Bull off the ropes with an elbow for two. Chinlock by Bull. Road Dogg fights back to his feet, comes off the ropes and runs into a big boot. Bull leaps off the top rope with a clothesline for two. Body shots in the corner before whipping Roadie hard across the ring. Roadie sent back across the ring, Bull misses a high knee setting him up for some shake, rattle and roll. Roadie goes for his knee drop, Richards trips him, Bull goes for his ax kick and Roadie counters with a spinebuster for the win. (1:52)
RTC try to attack and Roadie escapes into the crowd.
Chyna and Eddie find Foley's office, which this week appears to be a tiny utility closet with a piece of wood wedged in for a desk. I don't know how Foley got in or will get out, or how he claims to have seen what Kurt did to Chyna earlier when there's no TV in his office. Chyna wants Angle, but Foley doesn't want to reward his bad behavior, and doesn't think he deserves to be in the ring with Chyna at all. Eddie agrees but also demands a match with Angle. Since Hunter also wants a piece of Angle, Foley makes a triple threat for tonight.
Commercial
The WWF Burn of the Week is the Edge/Christian/dwarf segment from Raw.
Edge, Christian (WWF World Tag Team Champions) & Jacqueline vs The Hardy Boyz & Lita (WWF Women's Champion)
Pre-Match: Christian says the Hardyz always seem to come up short, and Edge explains it's because they reek of awesomeness and the Hardyz don't measure up. They're interrupted by the Hardyz before they can further mock them, Matt implies they reek of shit, then Jeff goes to say shit until Matt pulls the mic back. Matt promises they'll never wanna step foot in North Carolina again after tonight.
Christian and Matt start as the legal men, Christian immediately stomping on Matt as he slides in. Matt sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and delivers some rights. Matt sent off the ropes, kneed by Edge and runs into a dropkick. Jacqueline with a blind tag hits a crossbody off the top for two. Jacqueline misses an elbow and in tags Lita. Lita sent off the ropes, caught and nearly dropped on her head with a sidewalk slam for two. Jackie sent off the ropes, floats over, tries a DDT, caught with a Northern Lights for two. Lita off the ropes, I think Lita screws up another back drop, or almost screws up a flapjack and in tags Edge.
Edge misses a spear in the corner and hits the ring post, Matt tags in and sends Edge off the buckle before hitting the moonsault for two. Edge with a neckbreaker before Christian tags in. Matt sent off the ropes into a powerslam for two. Matt taken to the heel corner for triple teaming after Christian goads Lita and Jeff. Matt sent to the corner, get sChristian with an elbow and take each other out with double clotheslines.
Jeff tags in, tosses Edge out, Jackie comes off the top with a dropkick to the back of the head of Jeff, Lita double legs Jackie. Inverted DDT by Christian, cover and Matt hits a leg drop from the top.
DDTs on the champs and Jackie, double clothesline on Christian. Lita with a hurricanrana on Edge from the top before knocking Jackie out of the ring. Twist of Fate and Swanton on Christian for the win. (4:01) Great match for how short it was.
Steph is walking backstage and Kurt follows. He wants her to know he's here for her, and wants to clear up for everyone that the kiss he gave her last week was one between friends and nothing else. Steph asks for some space and leaves.

WWF European Championship: Perry Saturn (c) (w/ Terri) vs Al Snow
Perry gets the jump in the corner, catching Snow with a gorilla press and a jackhammer, at least I think that's what it was, they nearly screw it up. Saturn wastes time on the floor with Terri, allowing Snow to hit a crossbody and a scoop slam. Snow goes for a mmonsault off the barricade but he's shoved off by Terri, allowing Saturn to hit a side kick from behind and send him into the steps. Back in the ring, Northern Lights suplex by Saturn, then wrenches on the arm and shoulder into an armbar. Snow sent shoulder first into the buckles, followed by a key lock. Snow fights out, ducks a clothesline, delivers some rights, sends Saturn off the ropes into a back elbow and a clothesline. Scoop slam by Snow, then tries to climb the ropes. Saturn gets him on his shoulders, Saturn counters with a hurricanrana and the two exchange pin attempts, only for Saturn to hit a clothesline.
Snow sent to the corner, avoids a sidekick, hits a sitout spinebuster. Snow back up top hits the moonsault as Terri grabs Head and distracts Snow from the apron. Terri is thrown to the floor, Saturn moves the referee aside, Snow nails Saturn with Head. Snow makes the cover, referee starts to count until he sees Head nearby. Snow argues with the ref, Saturn hits a double-underhook suplex for two. Ref gets rid of Head, Terri tosses Head to Saturn who misses. Snow caught with a drop toe hold, tries for the Rings of Saturn but Snow fights out, applies a Dragon Sleeper and wins the title. (5:26) OK I wasn't expecting that, not a bad match either.
Trips and Steph try to make amends. Trips concedes he should have told her about his hug with Chyna, tries to compare it to her and Kurt but she doesn't see the similarity, saying they're just friends. He brings up how he kissed her and gets involved in their marriage, needles him, gets in his face and it causes him to tear the room apart. Also Just Joe is standing right outside but leaves as Steph starts to scream and cry.
Taker gets on his bike.
Commercial
Kevin Kelly congratulates Al Snow back in the locker room, and asks what he was thinking when he had his arm raised. Al says he wasn't thinking and that the belt's been held down too long, and plans to bring honor, prestige and respect to the citizens of Europea (not a typo).
The Lugz Boot of the Week is Taker costing Kane the WWF Title on Raw.
WWF Championship #1 Contender's Match: The Undertaker vs Chris Benoit
Must be won by pin or submission.
Benoit takes Taker to the corner with rights and boots immediately, then sends Taker off the ropes, catches a right and hits a military press, followed by a clothesline and an elbow coming off the ropes for two. Taker sent to the corner, Benoit tries a crossface, then a crucifix, then a sunset flip, only to be pulled up by the neck and thrown to the corner for elbows and rights. Benoit sent to the corner and avoids a knee, immediately going after it with stomps. Dropkick to the back of the knee and a cover by Benoit gets two.
Benoit back to the knee, driving it into the mat, then back to it in the corner, dropping his weight on it draped over the bottom rope, until he's shoved over the ropes to the floor. Benoit returns to the ring but runs into a big boot, then a right hand. Benoit sent off the ropes into a spinebuster. Taker calls for the chokeslam, Kane runs out, attacks Taker and... it's a DQ? In a match that can only be won by pin or submission. Alright then... (4:14)
Kane attacks in the corner, then Benoit and Kane go at it, then Taker joins in. Kane and Benoit double team Taker eventually until Rock runs out to even things up. He goes after Benoit while Take takes out Kane, sending both packing. Taker is ultimately announced the winner, Cole explains that no one is #1 contender though, I guess that's what the pin/submission stipulation meant, which is just stupid. Benoit goes after Kane again on the floor and they fight until refs run out to break them up.

Recap of what just happened.
Tazz vs Chris Jericho
Pre-Match: Tazz has a mic to talk about how King and JR are costing him matches and makes fun of JR's Bell's Palsy. He says King will find out what Thug Life's about and will become just another victim. Jericho comes out tells Tazz to shut the hell up, says the mood has changed to complete and utter boredom. Since he's been beaten by King and JR, everyone want a piece of Tazz now, including the popcorn vendor. He considers Tazz to be nothing but a schoolyard bullies, so like he did to all the schoolyard bullies growing up, he's going to put Tazz in the Walls, and send him home screaming and crying to his momma.
Tazz sent off the ropes into an elbow, then ducks a clothesline, Jericho immediately tries for the Walls but Tazz fights out. Runs into a boot only to catch Jericho with a belly to belly, before bouncing his head off the mat repeatedly. Tazz choking and rights int he corner, then sends Jericho face first off the mat.
